THE PERIYAZVAR SARANAGATHI

EmperumAnAr, for our sake surrendered at the feet of Divine couple , showed us the right, righteous path, leading by example-The paragon-The beacon.

 

As everybody knows, Sri RamAnujar took leaves from the books of AzvAr and practised it.The demonstration effect was telling.

 

Nam AzvAr surrendered at Sri DheivanAyagap perumAL of Sirivaramangai followed by the perumAL-s of Thirukkudanthai, Thiruvalla vAzh and at Sri KrshNA.

 

Sri Thirumangai Mannan fell at the feet of Thiruvarangam.- aDiyiNai adaindhEan aNi pozhil thiruvarangathAmAnEA.

 

Sri PeriyAzvAr approached EmperumAn falling at the feet of ThiruArangathammAn.

 

Quoting the auspicious quality of rescuing the elephant -Sri GajEndrAzvAn, AzvAr argues, the fact that a soul takes refuge unto the Supreme is to get respite at the troubling times.

 

The difficult times emerge when the emissaries of yamA indulge in tormenting the souls.

Appealing for escape from he jaws of these dangerous yama dhUthAs, AzvAr repeatedly requests EmprumAn to come to his side.

Sri Azhagiya maNavALap perumAL nayanAr points out the fact that the specific auspicious quality of rakshagathavam unique to vyUham-vyUha sauhartham is peculiar to Thriuvarangathamman.

 

AzvAr-s understanding this, no doubt, appeal to Him for compassion, to relieve them once and for all from this world. The very purpose of descending to Koil would be defeated if EmperumAn overrules the appeal,AzvAr requests for saving Him from this kArmic world.

 

The uniqueness of this AzvAr lies in the fact that he puts up all these requests for the future now itself -appOAdhaikku ippOdhEa solli vaithEan arangath aravaNai paLLiyAnEa 4-10-1,

instead of waiting for the final moments of distress.

 

In this great day of panguni uthiram, let us recall the divine paths of AzvAr followed by Sri ThiruppAvai jEyar for our sake.
