Guest guest
Srimathey iramanujaya Namaha: Swamin: Can we perform Tirumanjanam for Thayar on Friday's evening ? Is it allowed in sastharam to perform tirumanjanam after sunset? I want your opinion/suggestion/ advice about this practice. Is it performed in any other divya desam in India? Also is it performed in any temple in USA? If so, where in India/USA? is there any veda document where it says that we can perform tirumanjanam in the evenings? adiyan iramanuja dasan Padmanabhan Washington D.C. Guest guest
SrI: Dear SrI Padmanabhan : To the best of my knowledge , there are no evening Thirumanjanams to ThAyAr anywhere . The rationale for such a timing is not clear . VedAs do not talk about Thirumanjanams . Aagamams talk about all the UpachArAms and AarAdhanams . It is usual to plan Thirumanjanam after Midday AarAdhanam . It is done for both perumAL and ThAyAr except in kshEtrams where ThAyAr has Her own sannidhi (TanikkOil ArchAs) . It may be convenient for working AasthikAs to think of performing Thirumanjanam in the evening but it is not sanctioned for the evenings . Perhaps others can shed some light especially those are familiar with the Thirumanjanams at ThirucchAnUr . Guest guest
Routine Thirumanjanams are not done at odd hours. But as an angam (part) of an Utsavam they are done during any part of the day dictated by that utsavam. Guest guest
I have no idea about how my earlier response to this question was cut off. I am repeating it here. Routine Thirumanjanams are not done at odd hours. But as an angam (part) of an Utsavam they are done at any time as dictated by that Utsavam. But at home we should remember to observe food restrictions (during the day) on days like Sri Jayanthi when Thirumanjanam is done late night for Perumaal and Thaayaar. K. P.
