Guest guest Posted July 26, 2008 Report Share Posted July 26, 2008 sankalpam is nothing but the 'intention'.. when a puja is to be started we recite the sankalpam of ours and say at the end 'karishye' .That means you are pronouncing your intention to perform the puja on the particularday.In the beginning of the sankalpam we start with the right from mahavishnur agnyaya meaning as per the order of the vishnu, and continue by identifying your place, the ayanam ,the paksham, the day , the thirhi, the nakshatram etc, and at the end tell the particular karyam and end by saying karisheye. To be precise, the sankalpam is more or less as thus: Mama upathaya, duritha kshaya dwara,shri parameswara udhisya, sri parameswara priethyarcham, subhe shobhana muhurthe shri mahavishnuy agnyaya, pravarthamanasya, adhya brahmnaH,( then describing the place starts thus:) dwitheeya parradhe, swetha varaha kalpe, vaivasvatha manvantere, kaliyuge, pradhama pade , jambu dweepe, bharatha khande, bharata varshe, meror dakshina digh bhage, ( then further precision in the place , by describing the place as in between two rivers) supposing u are in hyderabad, one would say "krishna govadaryo madhya pradese"srirangasya uthara pradesha, mama gruhe, samasta devatha brahmana, harihara sannidhou.Then the gocharam is described. that is to say" asmin, varthamana vyavaharika chandramanena swasthishei ( now coming to the name of the year) sarva chari nama samvatsare,dakshinayane (or utharayane as the case may be) then the ruthu, then the name of the month ...mase, then shukla or krishna paksham, kvaram, thithi and nakshatram. after reciting all these, it is ended up by reciting the gothra , the name , ie .....samanaH. lokakalyanardham, and name of the karma is recited. ie, pratha sandya, or the karyam one would want to do, and end up by reciting karishye. The sankalpam in the hindu way of life is a very interesting phenomenon. It starts describing the place and time in which the karyam is being performed, ritght from sandhya vandanam to marriage or for that matter any karyam that is to be done the sankalpam is a must.It starts from the brahandam ,then the kalpam, manvantharam , the yugam, then the padam of the yugam, then comes the country, then the khandam ieJambu dweepam as usually referred for the asia, then the country, then we close down to the finer particulars like the southern part or northern part, and further closing down to the identification of the place,then the part on which your place in reference to the most sacred place of --- On Fri, 25/7/08, RAMESH PILLAI <trpillay wrote: RAMESH PILLAI <trpillay re:meaning Date: Friday, 25 July, 2008, 12:05 PM Hare Krishna, I would like to know meaning of sankalpam.
