The Third pAsuram of ThirunedunthANTakam sees Thiurmangai AzvAr talking EmpeurmAn's colour in each of the yugAs.

 

While talking of thREthA yugam -Kaliyan mentions EmperumAn's colour as reddish one.

 

When talking of krutha yugam Azvar mentions as

 

'peruvaDivil kadal amudham koNDa kAlam' பெர௠வடிவில௠கடல௠அமà¯à®¤à®®à¯ கொணà¯à®Ÿà®¾ காலமà¯

 

The name of the yugam is not mentioned but the extraordinary event is mentioned here as

 

The period in which Lord took a Huge size and churned the milky ocean.

 

Sri PeriyavAchAn piLLai questions this -Why does AzvAr talk about the event and not the name?

 

Here AzvAr feels it better to talk the period in relation to the Unique happeing connected with the Lord rather than the period where he feels that the period itself is a shell one (malattuk kAlam).

 

The king of commenatators also gives an example to drive home this point.

 

The panguni uthiram occurs in the month of ' panguni'. However, in those days devotees used to refer this as

'periya thirnAL' relating it to the divine event. Similarly, AzvAr refers to this great and unparallel event of EmperumAn.

 

The next question raised by the vyAkyAna Chakravarhty is

 

Why should kaliyan say ' peruvadivil kadal amudham koNDa kAlam' instead of just telling 'kadal amuhdam koNDa kAlam'

 

That is, if one wants to refer to the period, it suffices to indicate the event.What is the need for the adjective /adverb,'PeruvaDivu'

 

This is due to the multiple and huge form of Emperuman

 

one is the kUrmam at the bottom of the manthram -mountian; second is brahath rUpi at the top of the mountain. Apart from this mixing up with DhEvAs and asurAs as part of them.

 

On the top of this , the huge form churning the vast expanse of milky ocean (The milky ocean is said to be 'பதினால௠நூற௠ஆயிரகாதமாற௠பரபà¯à®ªà¯ˆà®µà¯à®Ÿà¯ˆà®¤à¯à®¤à®¾à®¯à®¿à®±à¯‡'

 

To churn the milky ocean which has a very vast expanse with a huge form.

 

This unique form/forms and the unique event is brought about by AzvAr in just one sentence as

'Peruvadivil kadal amudham koNDa kAlam' but the import the words are brought forth by

 

by the King of Commentators Sri PeriyavAchAn PiLLai.
