THE PERIYA THIRUMANTHIRAM

MANTHIRATHAL-மநà¯à®¤à®¿à®°à®¤à¯à®¤à®¾à®²à¯-

The probing questions of Sri PeriyavAchAN piLLai may sometimes make even AzvAr wonderstruck. Such is the depth into wich the KIng of Commentators indulges in.

Kaliyan recommends to his mind to cherish EmperumAn with Tirumanthiram - not with idhihAsa, purANam or upanishads- but with Tirumanthiram.

manthirathAl maRavAdhu enRum-மநà¯à®¤à®¿à®°à®¤à¯à®¤à®¾à®²à¯ மறவாத௠எனà¯à®±à¯à®®à¯-TirunedunthANTakam 4.

Now comes the question?

How does manthiram refer to Tirumanthiram?

There are so many manthiram-s. As said in SahasranAmam which originated to describe the ausipicious qualities of the Lord, the divine names are endless.

Why Periya Thirumanthiram?

Well, Tirumanthiram is the one whcih exactly represents the omnipresence and the Lord pervading into one and all.

There is no other manthiram which exaclty represents this fact. That is why this is termed as

'vyApaka manthiram'

What is the need for such manthiram now?

The contexrt of pAsuram will mirror this point. The pAsuram says that He is the prime to all devathAs, He is the indweller of five elments, He is the directions, the primary languagues and so on.

Which is the exact term which exactly reflects this . The Periya Tiurmanthiram. Is it not?

Further, is this not the manthiram in whcih Kaliyan got submerged at the outset and burst out the words

'nAN kaNDu koNDEan nArAyaNA -ennum nAmam'

’நான௠கணà¯à®Ÿà¯ கொணà¯à®Ÿà¯‡à®©à¯ நாராயணா எனà¯à®©à¯à®®à¯ நாமமà¯â€™

Thus, Sri PeriyavAchAn PiLLai not just justiies, that the term manthiram in the fouth pAsuram of ThirunedunthANTakam is Periya Thirumanthiram but also proves beyond doubt that

this cannot be any other manhtiram.

This goes to fathom his ability to pierce the atom and extract the power in that and disseminate to the benefit of one and all.

Is it not?
