There have been cases of mistaken identity in our spiritual arena. Even blessed ones like AzvAr- s and AchAryAs have succumbed to this identity conundrum.

 

Tirumangai AzvAr is so submerged in the beauty of The Lord Almighty of AshtA bhUham EmperumAn and wonders -Who could it be? (nAnivar thammai aRiya mATTEAn- நான௠இவர தமà¯à®®à¯ˆà®¯à¯à®®à¯ அறிய மாடà¯à®Ÿà¯‡à®©à¯-இவரார௠கொலà¯! 2-9 of Periya Tirumozhi-பெரிய திரà¯à®®à¯Šà®´à®¿)

 

As a mother ParakAla nAyaki does not know the exact identity of the youth who takes away her child-kaLvan kol! yAn aRiyEAn- ( kariyAn oru kALai vandhu-களà¯à®µà®©à¯ கொல௠யான௠அறியேனà¯-கரியான௠ஒர௠காளை வà¯à®¨à¯à®¤à¯.௨-௭-௧-2-8-1 of Periya Tirumozhi )

 

ParakAla nAyaki again is a bit puzzled on seeing EmperumAn with Divine conch and sArngam (innAR enRu aRiyEan..இனà¯à®©à®¾à®°à¯ எனà¯à®±à¯à®±à®¿à®¯à¯‡à®©à¯ அனà¯à®©à¯‡ ஆழியொடà¯à®®à¯.-௧0-௧0-௯-10-10-9 of Periya Tirumozhi) and does not know who it is !

 

svAmi Nam AzvAr used to deem highest respect on seeing the vertical mark on the forehead, irrespective of their actual identity,presuming them to be SrivAishNavites ( nIRu sevvEA idak kANil nedumAL adiyAr enRu.-.நீற௠செவà¯à®µà¯‡ இடக௠காணில௠நெடà¯à®®à®¾à®²à¯ அடியார௠எனà¯à®±à¯‹à®Ÿà¯à®®à¯ -௪-௪-௭ 4-4-7 of TiruvAimozhi-) ,

 

AzhvAr-s are full of devotion and blessed ones. AchAryas have wonderful knowledge. Despite this fact, they have fallen into this mistaken identity.

 

More mysterious is the fact, that Kaliyan thinks himself as the Lord of Tirumalai descending at TirukkaNNapuram (vadavarai ninRum vandhu inRu kaNapuram-வடà¯à®µà®°à¯ˆ நினà¯à®±à¯à®®à¯ வநà¯à®¤à¯ -இனà¯à®±à¯ கணà¯à®ªà¯à®°à¯à®®à¯ ௮-௨-௬ -8-2-6 of Periya Tirumozhi)

 

Is it not surprising to note that the most blessed souls and possessed with immense knowledge souls mistaking the identities and not able to recognize? What can be the reasons?
