THE DULL GHEE

Sometimes, the meter or the poetic lines, takes certain words to the next sentence of a pasuram.

This results in an unintended meaning.

Here is one such,

Sri ANDAL mentions that the cooked rice covered by milk and ghee.

The rice has to be searched inside the milk and ghee.

We chant this as

aDAi uduppOam adhan pinnEA pAr sORu

mUDa nei peidhu muzhangai vazhi vAra

ஆடை உடà¯à®ªà¯à®ªà¯‹à®®à¯ அதன௠பினà¯à®©à¯‡ பாலà¯à®šà¯‹à®±à¯-

மூடநெய௠பெயà¯à®¤à¯ à®®à¯à®´à®™à¯à®•à¯ˆ வà¯à®´à®¿ வார

The ghee is poured to cover the rice and milk

The covering -மூட- is taken to seocnd line resulting in an unintended meaning

ie... it appears to be an adjective for the ghee

மூட- dull or idiotic - thus this cannotes a dull ghee- an unintended meaning.

However, traditionally we chant like this usually.

Sri Sreekanth reports from SriRangam that this is chanted as follows in araiyar sEvai.

pAl sORu mUDa

ney peidhu muzhangai vazhi vAra

பால௠சோற௠மூட, நெய௠பெயà¯à®¤à¯

à®®à¯à®´à®™à¯à®•à¯ˆ வழி வார
