An Appeal for Sirupuliyur Temple Renovation

Hi all,

Given below is an appeal to renovate a temple in tamilnadu. Dontdelete the mail like any other forwards. Please read once.Constructing a new temple gives 1000 times more punya then building anew one.

Sri Salasayana Perumal Temple is one of the 108 divyadesam inTamilnadu. Divya Desams are Vishnu temples where the 12 Azhvars(divine saints) of vaishnavism have rendered mangalasasanam (Songs inpraise of the lord). There are 108 such Vishnu Temples. Out of them105 are located in India, 1 in Nepal and 2 in the non-physical world.

This temple is situated in Sirupuliyur, a village in Tiruvarurdistrict of Tamil Nadu. The deity of this temple is Lord Arulmaakadal(Vishnu), also known by the names Arulmaakadalamudhu and SalasayanaPerumal. The idol of the deity is depicted in a reclining position.Saint Thirumangai Alwar has glorified the significance of this lord inten divine shymes. Of all the perumals, the bujanga sayana posture atthis place is the smallest. The Utsavar murtis are Krubaa SamudraPerumal, Dayaanayagi. Vyaagrapaadar had prayed to Lord Siva & had gotthe legs, hands & eyes of a tiger. He had prayed to Lord Vishnu atthis sthalam & attained moksham. Hence the name Sirupuliyur. This ancienttemple was in a dilapidated condition till recently and needs urgentrenovation. The renovation work have begun since March 2009.
