We were discussing about this as explained by Dr Madurai Arangarajan svami. Some devotees have also raised doubtes in the text,that there are two long syllables

OO sequentially and not Oo (one nedil and one kuRil sequentially)

If we see in old editions and also note given in several texts, we can find one nedil and one kuRil Oo which is in consoant with the tamil grammar.

Sri Madhavan svami feels it is better to write more on this aLa pedai aspect.

What is aLa pedai.?

When there is a long sounding syllable ( nedil) it sometimes exceeds the requisite measured time . For long syllables the measure is 2 ( iraNdu mAThiraigaL) whne this exceeds a smaller syllable is added to reflect this and to maintain the poetic justice. Othersie, the poetic grammar gets spoilt and the meter also gets altered.

(Note IN tamil the measured time of spelling out a particualr syllable is called mAttirai and nedil has got two mathirai )
