Guest guest
Dear Swamin, Before I try to answer your question, the picture that you have attached is wonderful and we can see traces of Lord Narashima in Lord Krishna, I shall deliberate on this in a while. You are right Krishna took the vow that he would not use any weapon during the battle and he never used any weapon. To understand we need know the events preceding the great battle. One day before the war, both Duryodhana and Arjuna went to meet Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna was lying down with his eyes closed, seeing this Duryodhana took his place by his head, Arjuna who came later sat by his feet. When Lord opened his eyes he saw Arjuna and enquired what he wanted. Duryodhana objected to this and demanded that as he was the one who came first and he should be asked first. Lord pacified him saying as Arjuna is younger he should be given the first choice. Lord Krishna gave them the choice of the whole vaishnava army or his service. Arjuna didn’t want the army but wanted Lord Krishna by his side. Duryodhana was very elated and was happy to have the army on his side. When Duryodhana told this episode to his uncle Shakuni, his uncle was upset and told him that all the armies in the world is no match to Lord Krishna so something needs to be done. After lot of discussion in the Kaurava court it was decided that Duryodhana should approach Lord Krishna and request a vow that he would not be taking any weapon during the battle. When Duryodhana approached Lord Krishna with this request, Lord promised him that he would not take any weapon during the battle. Now back to the war. Bhishma wanted the lord to break his vow so he started to instigate Lord Krishna by hurtling arrows at the Lord’s face. The Lord patiently took all the pain and didn’t react. (more information available at http://kausiksarathy.blogspot.com/2008/08/parthasarathy-swamy-kovil-at.html). Seeing no reaction from Lord, Bhishma turned his attention to Arjuna, when the first arrow hit Arjuna, lord was infuriated and jumped out of his chariot and commanded Sudarshana (Discus) to behead Bhishma. On seeing this Bhishma prostrated and asked or forgiveness. Lord forgave him and dismissed Sudarshna. So Lord did not use his weapon during the battle. Bhishma was a great devotee of the lord and wanted to see lord’s divine quality of protecting his devotes and that is the reason for his action. Parallels with Lord Narashima. Lord won’t forgive for any wrongs done to his devotees (Bhagavata apacharam). As in the case with Narashima avataram, Lord was quite as long as the arrows were aimed at him but once the first arrow hit Arjuna, his anger knew no bounds. He was so angry that for a moment he even forgot his vow. The lesson from this episode is that we should refrain from any form of bhagavatha apacharam. With my little knowledge I have humbly put forward my view, that I have learned from elders, if there are any mistakes then it is because of my poor understanding and I shall stand corrected.Dhasan,Kausik Sarathyaswin srinivasan <aswin.srinivasan Sent: Sun, November 29, 2009 7:43:12 AM A doubt in Mahabaratham [1 Attachment] Dear Bhaktas, I had learnt that Lord Krishna never took his weapons against anyone during the war in Mahabaratha. Guest guest
Hi Krishna promised arjuna that he never took any weapon during the war, how ever bheesmachariyar has promised that he will make krishna to take the weapon. Since arjuna is not able to cope up with beeshma out of thought krishan has taken the chakra and he has not thrown it , arjuna remembered him about his promise In order to kill bheeshma krishnar told arjuna to take sikandi who is one of the people in pandava group , he takes sikandi to his chariot, during the previous birth he was born as girl and arjuna throws arrows towards bheeshma , since bheeshma knows that he is the girl in previous birth as per war dharma arrow is not suppose to throw arrow towards a girl , bheeshma reluctant in throwing arrows against arjuna and atlast arjuna killed him. with an effort of krishna else there is no one equal to bheeshma to fought Not only this krishnar has taken to much of efforts to make this war in favour of pandavas .
