Hindu Samhati Activists Arrested for Protesting Against Cow Slaughter in Kalna, West Bengal

Kalna, West Bengal

A most outrageous incident has happened in the town of Kalna in Bardhaman dsitrict of West Bengal. During this Muslim festival of Eid there was extensive cow slaughter throughout the town (Hindus throughout the world consider the cow to be sacred and abhor killing of cows).

despite vigorous protests from the Hindus. In Sahapur, a village adjoining Kalna, there are only two Muslim households – the rest are Hindu – and both these families slaughtered multiple cows for Eid.

To protest this blatant affront to the Hindu sensitivities, the local chapter of Hindu Samhati had put up posters and had planned to organize a procession and a meeting in Kalna on the 3rd of Dec, 2009. However just for the ‘crime ‘ of putting up posters and planning a rally and a meeting, the police arrested Sri Haripada Adhikari and three others Hindu Samhati activists on 2nd Dec, 2009. They have been picked up without any formal charges and have not yet been released.

Dear friends,

While I can see that the sentiments of many Hindus are hurt, it is

important to take a rational approach.

We have to examine the law of land. Does it prohibit cow slaughter?

If yes, then why did police not arrest the people breaking the law.

If no, how can one group protest the activity of another group and not

get arrested for that?

In 1947, Jinnah gave an opportunity for the Hindus and Muslims of India

to ever live in peace and harmony.

His plan was to carve out parts of India, solely for the Muslims, where

they can live and prosper, without being

restricted in any way by the non-Muslims. This plan was ruined by

Gandhi, who tried to block partition altogether

(which was not a bad idea, although was against the principles of

Islam), but ended up engineering a half-baked

partition (the Islamic republic of Pakistan ended up with over 30%

non-Muslim population) and the secular India

ended up with more than 10% Muslims. Special previleges were granted to

Muslims to protect them, which includes

right to practise their faith, as they know it and not as dictated by a

secular Govt.

The people we need to blame here are the Hindus (especially their

idealist leaders, who totally lacked understanding of the contending

faiths). I suggest to Hindus to shut up and let the law of land

prevail. I know, we have not understood Hinduism, which is the cause of

untouchability and tons of Hindu Mahatmans who were nothing but

Atmahans (Killed the soul of millions without touching the body)-At

least try to understand religion of people who have one book. This

would let us behave responsibly, at least towards followers of other

faiths. Internally we are messed up beyond repair.
