Guest guest
purusham soumya upathaapinam jnaathayah paryupaasathe jaanaasi maam jaanaasi maam ithi My dear, as the realtives of a man who is ill surround him asking him"Do you know me? Do you know me? thasya yaavath na vaangmanasi sampadhyathe as long as his speech does not merge in the mind, manaH praaNe praaNaH thejasi the mind does not merge in prana and prana does not merge in fire, thejaH parasyaam dhevathaayaam thaavath jaanaathi. And fire in the supreme deity, he is able to know them. aTha yadhaa asya vaang mansi sampdhyathe manaH praaNe praaNaH thejasi thejaH parasyaam dhevathaayaam, when his speech merges in his mind, mind in prana and prana in fire and fire in the Supreme deity, he knows them not. When the soul leaves the body first the speech merges with the mind when the person dying could not speak but could think without being able tto express himself. Next the mind merges with prana when he becomes unconscious but is alive. When prana merges with the fire the man dies and when the fire merges with the Supreme deity the fire leaves the body and he is dead. Here fire merging wth the Absolute does not mean moksha though for a man of realization it means that. For a worldly man the process is the same but he does not know that he has merged with the infinite just as he is in the state of deep sleep because of ignorance. Hence he is born again. Sa ya esho aNimaa ethath aathmyam idham sarvam That Being (into which one merges in deep sleep) is this Self which is subtle essence ( first cause) and all this world has it as the inner self. thath sathyam sa aathmaa That is the truth. That is the Self. thath thvam asi svethaketho That thou art Svethakethu ithi (Thus said the father.) bhooya eva maa bhagavan vijnaapayathu ithi (The son said ) please sir, tell me again. thaThaa soumya ithi hovacha Saying " alright my dear boy," he spoke again. The doubt that may arise in the mind that , if the process is similar for a worldly man and a realized soul how does one returns and the other attains salvation is cleared by the next passage.
