Introduction

Talking about the

divine acts of trivikraman in the last paasuram, pEyazhvar immerses himself in

the divine beauty of trivikraman in this paasuram,

Commentary

(andRu) That day

when mahabali gave alms, by pouring water into the hands of vamana;

(vulagam tAyOn

adivaNNam thAmarai) The color of the divine feet of trivikrama who playfully

measured the world is reddish like that of a lotus.

'vaNNan' – can refer to color or characteristic.

The color of the

divine feet is similar to lotus or the characteristic of the divine feet is

soft and fragrant like lotus.

'andRulagam tAyOn' is put in the centre in order to attach with

the front and the back words.

(vulagam tAyOn

padivaNNan pArkadal neer vaNNam) The color of the divine physique of that lord

who measured the worlds is like the color of the ocean surrounding the earth

dark and cool.

Or otherwise, if read as "pARkadal neer vaNNam" – The hands that

was used to only giving alms now begs for alms and hence due to shyness the

whole body became white like the milky ocean.

Considering 'vaNNam' to mean characteristic. 'padivaNNam' like the

water that flows in any direction he also follows according to the wish of the bhakthas

(Arjavam).

Nammazhvar reiterates the same as, "neerpurai vaNNan" (thiruvai

1-8-11)

(mudi vaNNam vOrAzhivaiyOn) The color of the

lord's divine crown is like the hot glowing sun, who rides the chariot with a

single wheel.

(oLiyum akthandRE)

what can we say about his glow? The

glow is also similar, to the sun's glitter.

"divi sooryasahasrasya bhavEt yuga padhuththithA Yathi bhA: sadrushee

sAsyAt bhAsas tasya mahAtmana: "(geetha 11-12)

[if thousands of suns glow at the same time in the sky probably

they may equal the glow of that supreme lord]"kathirAyiram eravi kalandheriththAl oththa neeNmudiyan" (peri

4-1-1)

Considering 'vaNNam' to mean characteristic, Like the sun, the

lord is also not approachable to the enemies "abhitha: bhAvakOpamam" (Ra-Ar-99-26)

(ArAzhi koNdARkku azhaghu) The beauty of that lord holding the

beautiful discus in the hand is as enjoyed above.

'Ar' can refer to presence –beauty present or filled. If he holds the divine discus in his hand,

the discus fills his hand and there is no need for any other decoration.
