My heart/mind; kAr kadal neer – filled with the dark colored waters of the ocean; vElai – as the boundaries; pozhil – this earth; aLandha – one who measured; puL voorthi – one who has garuda as his vahana (vehicle); selvan – one who is filled with wealth; ezhil aLandhu eNNaRku ariyAnai – one whose beauty cannot be perceived by thoughts (boundless beauty); epporutkum sEyAnai – one who is at a very far distance to everything; naNNaRku ariyAnai – one who is not reachable by anyone (through self effort); kazhal – divine feet; nAm thozhudum – let us prostrate; vA – come and join; Introduction Immersed in the divine beauty of the supreme lord, azhvar now calls his heart/mind to join him to surrender to the divine feet of that supreme lord. Commentary (kArkadal neer vElai pozhil aLandha puL voorthi selvan) One who measured this earth, with the dark colored ocean water as the boundaries, one who is garudavahanan, sriya:pathi (pozhil aLandha ) "Eka: prAseesarath pAdhamEka: prachasishowLan mudha I aparOpyataran moordhna kOdhikas tEshu kAnyadhAm II" [one stretched his divine feet; one with pleasure washed it; another one held that water on his head. You yourself decide who is supreme (sarveshvaran) among the above three] (puLLoorthi) "suparnOsi garuthmAn" He has garuda, the vedasvaroopi as his vahana (vehicle) again indicating his paratva (supremacy) (Selvan) "selvanAraNan" (thiru 1-10-8) The most important quality that makes him alone supreme (svaroopa niroopaka dharmam) is sriya:pathitvam (He is Srimaan, one is always with Sri: ) Otherwise, it can be told that pozhiaLandha, puLoorthi, or selvan all elaborates only the divine beauty not even pointing towards his supremacy .. (ezhil aLandhu angu eNNaRkku ariyAnai) It is not that we cannot express His beauty with words we cannot even perceive it in thoughts. Such is the greatness of His divine beauty (epporutkum sEyAnai) His beauty cannot be compared with any other object in this world. His beauty is beyond all other beauties. (naNNaR kariyAnai) " yArumOr nilaimaiyan ena aRivariya emperuman" (thiru 1-3-4) He is unreachable by even the highly qualified and celebrated brahma rudras (on their own effort) (nAm kazhal thozhudhum) We, who enjoyed His divine darshan, due to His divine grace "yArumOr nilaimaiyan ena aRiveLiya emperuman" (thiru 1-3-4) Let us surrender to his divine feet and enjoy his divine service (kainkaryam) (vA nenjE) Oh! My heart/mind you alone realize the taste of surrendering and doing divine service so come on let us reach the divine feet of the supreme lord.
