AdiyEn described many kinds of Thirumanjanam except the Nava Kalasa Thirumanjanam in my last posting . Here is some information pn the popular Nava Kalasa Thirumanjanam as witnessed by adiyEn during the samarpaNam of Mutthangi for GodhA PirAtti at SrI VilliputthUr two years ago . This article was written soon after and adiyEn is reposting it for completeness . Today , the focus is on the Nava Kalasa Thriumanjanam performed for the dhivya dampathis at NaacchiyAr ThirumALigai as the PoorvAngam for Mutthangi SamarpaNam . The Dhravyams for the Nine Kalasams and the invoked DevathAs *********************************************************************************** 1. Central Kalasam : Ghee /VaasudEvan 2. Eastern Kalasam : Paadhyam Klasam/VishNu 3. Southern Direction : Argya Kalasam /Madhusoodhanan 4. Western Directions: AchAmana Kalasam/Thrivikraman 5. Norhtern Direction: Panchakavyam/ Vaamanan 6. South East Direction : Curd / Sridharan 7. South West Direction: Milk /HrudheekEsan 8. North West Direction: Honey/PadhmanAbhan 9. North East Direction: Coconut Milk or water mixed with Fruits / DaamOdharan or Satyan . The tenth extra vessel is used for Turmeric powder ( ManjaL Podi) .. AavAhanam , PeedArchanams , TaLikai SamarpaNamwith MudhrAs *************************************************************************************** The procedures used in ThiruvArAdhanam are used for the above steps in consecrating the Kalasam and their dhravyams/Moorthys in the order enlisted above . After consecration of individual kalasams, they are covered with Vasthram and Chakra Mudhrai is shown . AavAhanam of BhagavAn , Ubhaya NaacchiyArs *************************************************************** The AadhAra Sakthi from Moolavar has to be invoked from Moolavar to ArchA bhErams(Uthsavars) thru PeedArchanam and aavAhanam procedures specified in ThiruvArAdhanam with mudhrAs starting from NyAsa Mudhra to Kireeta , VanamAlaa , Padhma dhvaya MudhrAs .. PushpAnjali follows . UpachArams of Dantha Suddhi/Kaashtam , ( cleaning of teeth) KaNDUsham (Rinsing of Mouth ) , wiping of the tongue with TuLasi and Aachamaneeyam follow along the manner established for ThiruvArAdhanam .. AavAhana Manthram ( Sakthi from Moolavar to Uthsavar )for PerumAL : ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ (PraNavam) ParamadhAmAvasTitha madhanugraha-kAmyayOdhyathAvathAra ihApimathasiddhidha manthra Sareera yEhyEhi Bhagavan Aagaccha Aagaccha The Manthra Sareera Moorthy is invoked from His Supreme abode with preethi .. For ThAyArs/ TanikkOil NaacchiyAr , The above Manthram is modified slightly : ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ (PraNavam) ParamadhAmAvasTithE madhanugraha-kAmyOdhyavathArE iha abhimatha siddhitha manthra SareerE yEhyEhi Bhagavathy Aagaccha Aagaccha At the end of Thirumanjanam , the invoked sakthi of BhagavAn and Devis from Moolavars are returend to Them thru visarjana Manthram : (PraNavam) Bhagavan! Manthramoorthe! svapdham AasAdhaya AasAdhaya Kshamasva Kashmasva (PraNavam) namO nama: After invocation , elaborate PeeDArchana Manthrams are recited for PeeDa dEvathais in front , right side , Left side , back of the Peetam and for Vaayu moolai . There are 39 Manthrams for PeeDa DEvathais and Ten of them are used for PeetArchanam for Ubhaya NaachiyArs and TanikkOil DEvi . All start with PraNavam. 29 have BheejAksharams and end with Nama: sabdham . The 39th manthram is for our AchAryAs (asmath gurubhyO nama:) preceded by PraNavam . Thaila SamarpaNam ************************* Arayar's offering of Thailam is unique at SrivilliputthUr .. Elsewhere , Sannidhi ParichArakAls will fill in . This fragrant thailam is warmed with dheepam , spread on the palms of the archakar's hands and then the bhAvanai is done like placing it on siras , chest , hands and the legs of the Lord as if He is having the upachAram of oil bath . For Andal , thaila samarpaNam is on the siras alone. Next sandal paste from a small vessel is used to remove the oil like seekkAi paste . SuddhOthakam is used to start the Thirumanjanam .Dry cloth is used to remove the wetness. Argyam , Padhyam , Aachamaneeyam , dhUpa dheepa , naivEdhya upachArams follow . Thirumanjanams and UpachArams ********************************************** Now the heart of the Thirumanjanam is enacted . The water from the Eastern kalasam is the first one to be used and the process continues until the central kalasam . In between the suddhOdhaka snAnam is offered . UpachArams follow each abhishEkam from the kalasams . HaridhrA ChUrNam (ManjaL Podi) and SanthanAbhishEkam ***************************************************************************** The HaridhrA chUrNam is now applied lightly avoiding any sprinkling on the face of Moorthys . SuddhOdhaka abhishEkam follows . UpachArams are presented and after that thick paste of Sandal wood is applied all over the ThirumEni from neck to sacred feet and Peetam . TuLasi garland is presented . Simple dhUpam and row lamps (a dukku dheepam) are offered .. Kattiyam is recited .One archaka assisted by two others use Padhma dhArai and Sankha DhArai and pour the suddhOdhakam on to sahasra dhArai .. The sequence is three times Sahasra dhArai for Rangamannaar and twice for Andal followed by one more time for RangamannAr . Santhana Kaapu would have been fully removed by now. a small vasthram is consecrated by dheepam and dhUpam and that is used to adorn the Lord's head . Wet cloth is replaced by a dry vasthram . Now arguyam , Padhyam , Aachamanam , Gandham , Pushpam , dhupam are presented and ghata dheepam is presented next . Viswa manthram is used to bless the Ghata dheepa jwAlai . Ghata dheepa samarpaNam is done with both hands . Simple karpoora Haaratthi precedes naivEdhyam . Saathveeka Phala samarpaNam for Thirumanjanam is placed at the scred feet of ther dhivya dampathis and aparAdha kshAmaNam for lapses is requested .. GhOshti Theertha & SaThAri PrasAdham ***************************************************** SaThAri recieves a mini htirumanjanam now . UpachArams are presented to SaThAri , PrasAdhana manthram is used for PreeNanArgyam with sacred water form Paadhya vattil and the ghOshti now recieves Theerttham and SaThAri .. Thus ends the Thirumanjanam. Temple Honors for MaNDakappadi ********************************************* adiyEn was presented with the Rose garland that Andal had worn during the Thirumanjanam and the special parrot that She had worn the day before .. These green parrots with a rd beak are amde every day for Her and is presented next day to some one the ArchakAs honor . Mutthangi SamarpaNam following Thirumanjanam ***************************************************************** Curtain was drawn now and visEsha alankAram ( Mutthangi SamarpaNam ) took place inside the ardha mantapam . The dhivya dampathis travelled from Thirumanjana Mantapam to the inner Mukha Mantapam on ArchakA's hands .. When the samarpaNam was done , the dhivya dampathis in their new aabharaNam of radiant Mutthangi blessed the ghOshti , which had swollen now to significant numbers .. KumkumArchanai was done to ThAyAr and adiyEn was invited to perform ThiruvAlavatta Kaimkaryam ( Fan service) to the dhivya dampathis .. It was the fruit of adiyEn's whole life to stand 2 feet away from the dhivya dampathis and enjoy their radiant sEvai . The Mutthangi was created by the specialists in Sri VilliputthUr .. It was not the traditional type , where pearls are stitched on bluish Velvet .. This one is hard to keep because of problems in attack by insects and rodents during the storage . They had come up with a Cooper base on which fine holes are drilled and the pearls are woven in with special threads. The second thing unusual is the use of colored stones with pearls for Andal . Her consort had all white pearls . The measurements ahd to be exactly right . The Paadha sevai of Andal with the new Angi was captivating .. Andal had to have a dress over Her Mutthangi because of Her modesty as the wife of the Lord . RangamannAr did not have any dress over His Mutthangi . At Srirangam , Lord RanganAtha (Uthsavar) has a transparent vasthram over the AabharaNam . The workmanship of Andal's Mutthangi is exquisite . adiyEn will try to scan the photo taken before SamarpaNam to enjoy the skill of the craftsman .. adiyEn wants to thank every one of You , who joined in this kaimkaryam and made it possible to realize this Kaimkaryam . Hopefully , the Temple authorities will use the Mutthangi during the upcoming Marghazhi Maasa Uthsavams and also for special events . TadheeyArAdhanam for GhOshti ****************************************** At the end of the Mutthangi SamarpaNam , the dhivya dampathis presented fifty plus of us with a full fledged TadheeyArAdhanam ( KalyANa SaappADu) in Andeal's MadaippaLLi . We all left AndAL's ThirumALigai after the TadheeyArAdhanam with a great sense of fulfillment and joy . Thus ended the KshEthrAdanam this year starting from Thirumala and concluding at AndAL's SrivilliputthUr , where ThiruppAvai and NaacchiyAr Thirumozhi were born and where She wed Lord RanganAthA and stays there with Him to bless us all for times to come .. adiyEn thanks the dhivya dampathis for the anugraham to complete this whirlwind trip full of memorable sevais at various dhivya dEsams without any incidents or accidents . They protect us , wherever we are and think of Them .
