Guest guest
SrI: Dear SrI Sriraman Swamy : It is very informative to know how the SrI Sooktha Homam is performed at Nandhipura ViNNagaram alias Naathan Koil . My neighbor at Oppiliappan Sannidhi was called Naathan Koil KaNNan Bhattar . He performed AarAdhanam for ThiruviNNagarappan Later . I remember the beautiful Uthsavar at Naathan Koil , who resembles Sri Ponnappan ( Uthsavar) at Oppiliappan Sanidhi . My visit walking across groves and paddy fields (Vayal Pathai) from Oppiliappan Koil to Naathan Koil as a boy is still green in my memory . I guess that there are better transportation these days. Next time in India , I hope to be blessed to have the sevai ofthe dhivya dampathis there . Thanks very much for sharing the information on SrI Sookthi Homam . Sadagopan Swamin: Dasoham adiyen has been fortunate to participate in the Sri Sooktha Homam and Thirumanjanam for Sri Shenbagavalli Thayar being performed on every Sukhlapaksha Ashtami day at Sri Nandipura Vinnagaram, for the last 3 years now. It was during one of the visits about 3 years back, that we decided to sponsor Sri Sooktha Homam and Thirumanjanam for Sri Shenbagavalli Thayar. According to the sthalapuranam, Mahalakshmi did penance in Shenbagaranyam, facing East, to be united with Sriman Narayanan all the time and be present in His "Vakshasthalam". Sriman Narayanan appeared on a Sukhlapaksha Ashtami Day, a Sukhravaaram,in the month of Aippasi. Hence there is a tradition to perform archana for Sri Shenbagavalli Thayar on 8 Ashtami Days or 9 Sukhravaarams, to get wishes fulfilled. We thought, Sri Sooktha Homam and Thirumanjanam for Thayar on the avathara dinam of Sriman Narayanan every month would trigger activities around that in the temple, and would make many devotees come and have darshan of Sri Jagannatha Perumal and Sri Shenbagavalli Thayar. We are very happy that today, HH Jeeyar of Naguneri Mutt has blessed the festivities and the temple authorities have made arrangements for all the devotees to part take in the monthly homam and thirumanjanam. The temple authorities charge Rs 125/- for any one who wants to make a sankalpam and participate in the Sri Sooktha Homam and Thirumanjanam. We continue to sponsor the Thirumanjanam and Hoamam costs, and the additional contribution from all devotees are apparently used to take care of running of the temple administration and other festivities. There is a Trust in place, under the guidance of HH Jeeyar of Nanguneri and admistered by the Mutt's Agent in charge of the temple. Our activities are restricted to the contribution and conduct of Sri Sooktha Homam and Thirumanjanam and we are not involved in any other activity of the Trust. Aippasi Sukhla Ashtami, the avathara dinam of Sriman Narayanan is marked by Thirumanjanam for all - Moolavars & Utsavars in the temple, apart from Sri Sooktha Homam and this is being conducted annually for the last 2 years. The practice is that, every Sukhla Astami Day, it all starts with Gadasthapanam. It is followed by Sri Sooktha Homam. Normally, homam is perfomed using ghee; red lotus flowers dipped in honey; sakkarapongal, samiths. After Panchasooktham, the main Sri Sooktha Homam starts and it would be normally not less than 108 avarthis. Thirumanjanam for Shenbagavalli Thayar - Moolavar and utsavar shall commence before the Poornahuthi, and the Thirumanjanam shall stop with Santhanakappu. It would be followed by Poornahuthi, Gadapurappadu and the Grand finale of Thirumanjanam. Alankaaram, saatrumurai and prsadam distribution shall follow. adiyen has elaborated the process, to whatever extent adiyen is aware of. Hope adiyen has not committed any mistake in representing the process to your goodself. dasan Sriraman
