Guest guest
SrI: Dear AasthikAs : I have forwarded a message earlier on this year"s Yajur UpAkarmaa . Since I still recieve inquiries on the complications arising from Chandra GrahaNam , I am retransmititng and adding some new Information for Rg Vedis and Saama Vedis as well . Yajur UpAkarmaa : Monday , August 27 Rg UpAkarmaa: Sunday , Aug 26 Saama UpAkarmaa : Thursday Sep 13 Gaayathri Japam ( For All) : Tuesday , Aug 28 The UpAkarmaa Mantrams in Sanskrit and English are available at : http://www.sundarasimham.org These are e-books 46, 47 and 48 . Please use them if there are no Bruhaspathis in your area and customize the sankalpam for this year . Those in India can look at the excellent write up and video by Sri Vaasu VaadhyAr at his frequently used site : http://www.ahobilam.com Additional Comments ************************** Since lunar eclipse occurs on Tuesday, upAkarma should be observed on Monday. Since USA has 4 time zones unlike India, the local time of lunar eclipse can be got from the NASA link. http://aa.usno.navy.mil/cgi-bin/aa_lunecl.pl " i (use formA)". Please make sure you use Form A where a scroll down window lists important cities within USA. Gayathri japam should be performed after moon set or completion of eclipse on Tuesday. Example of East Coast :Site releated Observance ******************************************************** For Edison, NJ/New York Eclipse begins at 3.51 AM EDT. Totality Ends/Moon set - 6.22 AM EDT. Moksham - 7.24 PM EDT (evening) Affected Nakshatrams: are Avittam, Sadayam, Purattadi mrgaseerisham, chitrai (continue fasting after 6.22 AM EDT and can eat after 7.24 PM EDT). Do not partake food before 9 hours of beginning of eclipse. Perform Gayatri japam after eclipse concluded or moon set. Guest guest
Grahana (Eclipse) dosham is for the Prathama-upakarma (Thalai Avani Avittam) only because of Veda-arambam(initiation for learning vedas)and does not affect others observing 2nd, 3rd etc. upakarmas. However food consumption will be dictated by the grahanam. Before Rishi Tharpanam and homam (which may well go into late afternoon for some of us)no food (not even idli) should be consumed anyway. Those Yajur vedis in USA who use panchangam as is (without time-shift) can observe upakarma on Tuesday. If it is the first one do shanthi (it could be a simple hiranya danam - donating money to a nearby temple priest) before starting upakarma. Dr. K. P.
