Guest guest
Post 11 Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, We are studying how closely periyaazhvaar followed srimadh bhaagavatham while giving his version of kaNNan piLLaith thamizh, namedperiyaazhvaar thirumozhi. Even minor details like "haridhraa choorNam" – suNNam in 1-1-1 'father nandha waiting to eat along with krishNa'- appanum uNdilan unnadanE uNbaan 3-3-3 uththaanam seidhu – 1-1-8 are followed in toto by aazhvaar from sree sukhar. Now comes another big doubt for me. While aazhvaar gave that 10 verses of 'singing lullaby' – 'thaalElO' to make child krishNa sleep – to me it appears so - that sree sukhar - even per chance - has not given an indication - that a big list of articles or things as gifts were given to child sri krishNa – may be as a birth day gift or on some such event – can be even during that naming ceremony sage garga performed secretly in the cattle shed or that uththaanam [which aazhvaar specifically mentions in 1-1-8]. That list runs like - the 'thottil' – cradle - given by brahma - the belt for the stomach portion interspersed with small knives given by kabaalee – the rudhran - sivan - indhra giving kiNkiNi etc - the dhEvaas giving conch - naaN – a jewel – given by dhEvaas - araith thOdar – another belt – by dhEvaas - aimpadaiththaali and a garland - aaram – given by vaisravaNan – kubEran – the north direction head – vada dhisaik kaavalan - a garland of pearls by varunNan - a garland of thulasi by thirumangai – lakshmi - a variety of jewellery by bhoodhevi – avaniyaaL – like kachchu, vaLai, uchchimaNi chutti, golden flower - bathing powder, kajal, sindhooram for face by umaa – veyaa kalaip paagi – again this addressing umaa is superb. Further in my opinion, actually sree sukhar has not given an indication that mother yasOdhaa sang a lullaby to make krishNa asleep. May be singing a lullaby is something a special - only in south India - and aazhvaar has taken a poetic license to sing a lullaby for his krishNa. But the list of gifts at least should find a base with sree sukhar, because aazhvaar follows closely sukhar in many an aspects and why should he deviate on this. That I am unable to link. Learned bhagavathaas can guide me in this. Added to the above is the point – if aazhvaar has statrted singing a lullaby to krishNa he should have started with krishNa as in the first verse – instead he goes on addressing - maaNik kuRaLanE - ulagam aLanthaanE, - thaamariak kaNNanE, - then comes dhEvaki singamE – oh krishNa – about whom he is singing Just compare how he started his thirumozhi – vaNNa maadangal soozh thiruk kOttiyoor kaNNan, kEsavan, nambi ----- – a bang bang start in his thirumozhi – a direct indication on whom he is going to sing – on that krishNan, kEsavan, nambi –place – thirukkOttiyoor - given straight away. – The same style aazhvaar's daughter also followed in her thirumozhi – thiruppaavai - hey aaippadi selva sirumeer – aaippaadi young ladies, -- nandha gOpan kumaran, yasOdhai iLam singam – compare daughter and dad – aaippadi--- kaNNan, thirukkOttiyoor --- kaNNan But in the lullaby, what we see is a rounding – vaamanan, thrivikraman, puNdareekaakshan, then son of dhEvakee - krishNan. Why this rounding? PVP also says 'vaLarpiLLaiyaith thottililE vaLarththi thaalaattina prakaaraththai thathkaalam pOlE virumbi anubaviththup pEsugiRaar' in the avathaarigai of this padhigam. That much. No reasons why this vaamanan et al and then reaching krishNa. Of course this doubt was lingering on in my mind for quite a long time – may be since our madhavkkannan swamy did his treatise. But that gets an expression in the lists no only- before it is too late. Now I invite bhaagavathaas to comment. [incidentally I also know that aazhvaar when he says vaamana et al it can be applied to krishNa ].
