Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

We saw why "thiruvONaththaan" by periyaazhvaar. Now why sravaNam is given so much importance - from another angle - see slokam – this slokam is for vaamana avathaaram --

srONaayaam sravaNa dhvaadhasyaam muhoorthE~ abhijithi

prabhuh |

sarvE nakshathra-thaaraadhyaas chakrus thaj-janma dhakshiNam || 8-18-5

TRANSLATION

On the day of SravaNa-dvadasi [the 12

th day of the bright fortnight in the month of Bhaadra], when the moon came into the lunar mansion SraavaNa, at the auspicious moment of Abhijith, the Lord appeared in this universe. Considering the Lord's appearance very auspicious, all the stars and planets, from the sun to Saturn, were munificently charitable.

Just compare krishNa's birth time slOkam – for those planetary positions

meaning: Suka brahmam said: 'Then there was the supreme hour all-auspicious and most suitable with the constellation of Rohini rising and all the stars and planets in a favorable position.

Continuing on vaamana avathaaram from bhaagavatham -

TRANSLATION

When Adhithi saw the Supreme lord, who had appeared from her own womb, having accepted a body by His own spiritual potency, she was struck with wonder and was very happy. Upon seeing the child, Prajaapathi Kasyapa exclaimed, " Jaya! Jaya! " in great happiness and wonder.

TRANSLATION

The Lord appeared in His original form, with ornaments and weapons in His hands. Although this ever-existing form is not visible in the material world, He nonetheless appeared in this form. Then, in the presence of His father and mother, He assumed the form of Vaamana, a braahmaNa dwarf, a brahmachaari, just like a "theatrical actor".

Just compare krishNa janana slOkam again -

TRANSLATION: That wonderful child was, resplendent with lotus-like eyes and four arms holding the different weapons, decorated with the Sreevathsa mark, the shining Kousthubha around His neck, His yellow garments and a beautiful hue like that of rainclouds. VasudhEva saw Him brilliantly decorated sparkling with a vaidoorya studded headgear [helmet or kreetam] and earrings to the beauty of profusely scattered locks of hair, an exquisite belt around the waist and bands and bracelets on His arms.

Now recall what lord himself has said [saw in previous post] – I only appeared second time as your son named upEndhra, in that dwarf - vaamana form. So it is clear in both avathaarams he appeared in front of his parents [?] in the original form of vishNu, that 'sankha chakra gadha dhaari roopam'. At both times the parents – same couple or two – struck with wonder.

[May be the repetition of that 'tham adhbhutham' slokam is slightly irritating to some of you – but the greatness of slOkam and points to be driven at, needs that exercise. So please excuse me].

Further the greatness of matter on hand – and in the slokams may quell that irritation.

TRANSLATION

Sree suka brahmam said: After thus instructing his father and mother, the lord vishNu, remained silent. In their presence, by his own energy, He then transformed Himself into a small human child.

So, dear all, in both avathaarams, he appeared as "vishNu" in the original form in the first instance and then changed to ordinary human form in front of that very same parents – in their very presence – there as a Brahmin boy dwarf in size - here as a gOpa child - vaisya child.

Now - Can we say - Since lord vishNu - appeared as vaamana in his second birth in that sravaNa nakshathram – abhijith nakshathra and muhurtham – that is still lingering in the minds of periyaazhvaar – that too after enjoying those great slokams of 'tham adhbhutham baalakam' – so he continues to stay in that mood of elation – and says 'thiruvOnaththaan ulagu aaLum enbaargaLE' – meaning vaamana literally and really. since he did that by bringing the bali chakravarthy under his feet - 'ulagai aLakkum' – 'aaLum.' The very purpose of that upEndhra avathaaram is to get back the raajyam for dhEvEndhra – so came as upa + indhra = upEndhra – in dwarf form - vaamana.

In sree vishNu sahasra naamam the explanation for this upEndhra is --

"151) Upendrah -The younger brother of Indra. In His Incarnation as Vaamana, He was born to Aditi, who was the mother of Indra, and hence, the Lord is known as the " Younger brother of Indra " . In Sanskrit the prefix upa denotes `Above' in the sense of `superior to'; therefore, Upendra may also mean " One who is superior to Indra " , the king of gods. Such an explanation we find in the Harivamsa (76-47).

Indra, the king of the sense organs, is the mind and the Consciousness, which is the Self, is the One factor that dynamises the mind. Since life is that which controls even the mind, certainly It is superior to the mind and this Self is the Maha Vishnu."

Now link this second para with what sri manivaNNan swamy said – rohiNi, hastham, sravaNam – chandhran is manO kaarakan - the lord of mind. Indhran – vishNu is superior to indhran etc. it leads why all 3 stars get connected.

From original vishNu to Vaamana, thrivikrama -- the naTah the great. As per sukhar

From original vishNu to krishNa – the naTah the great. Again sukhar - Sukhar repeats that word 'natah' in Krishna avathaaram also – recollect that "barhaa peetam natavarah vapuh" another famous slokam of dhasama skandham. Let us continue in next post
