Guest guest
For the welfare of his devotees and to uplift the fallen souls, Lord Sri Krishna spoke to His dear weapon – Sri Sudarshana Chakra in this way: sudarSana mahAbAhO koTisUrya samaprabha ajnAna timirAndhAnAm vishnOr mArgam pradarshaya O Sudarshana! O you who is mighty armed, you carry the effulgence of a thousand suns. Kindly show the path towards Lord Vishnu to those who are drowning in the ocean of ignorance. Accepting this order, Sri Sudarshana ji appeared on earth in the house of Sri Arun rsi from the womb of Jayanti mAta. His birthplace is Vaidurya Pattanam near Aurangabad (Maharashtra). He was named Niyamanand at birth. At the age of 12, he moved to Sri Govardhana Dham (which is usually known as Vadamadurai in the 108 tirupatigal) and settled in a village called Nimbagram. There was a large tree of neem in this village. One day, Sri Niyamanand miraculously showed the sun through this tree to the residents of the village during the night time. From that time, He came to be known as “Nimbark” (nimb = neem ark = sun) This place is still the abode of tranquility and happiness. Although small, it is really a place worth a visit. If any Bhagavata would like to visit this place, they are free to enquire from me. If one goes to this place in summer, the devotees there will give you a very nice drink of thandai, which even cools the disturbed mind which is burning in the fire of kaliyuga. He also established the worship of Sri Radha with Sri Krishna. He was initiated by Sri Narad muni ji at Sri Narad kund (a holy pond in the own of Govardhan). Shri Narad muni initiated him in the same way that he was initiated by the four kumaras and imparted to him all the knowledge that he got from the four kumaras (also sons of Brahma ji) – Sanak, Sanandan, Sanatan and Sanatkumar. This is how Sri Sudarshana appeared on the earth and Nimbarka Sampradaya of Vaishnavas was started. Disciplic succession: Shri Hari Four Kumaras Narad muni ji Nimbarkacarya And after Nimbarkacharya, all His disciples and further disciples continued to spread the effulgence of the path to Lord Vishnu throughout this world. P.S. the information above is taken from Sri NimbArk Charita PrAkash – a granth of Sri rAs priyA alI ji Sri BhaktamAla – a granth of Sri nAbhA Das ji I hope you enjoyed reading the kathA of Nimbarkacarya! Guest guest
Swamin, What were the earlier postings on Sri Nimbarkacharya? I would be grateful if a list with the dates of postings are given, if I am not demanding too much. Guest guest
Dear Sriman Srinivasan : There have been no previous postings on Sri Nimbarkacharya . He is a VaishNavite AchArya ( DhvaitAdhvaitha ) and differs from VisishtAdhvaitha darsanam of AchArya Ramanuja and Swamy Desika SampradhAyam. If you do google search on "Nimbarka" , You can access an excellent article by Sir Sarvapalli RadhakrishNan , the Former Prsident Of India : a compartive study of Nimbarka's dhvaitAdhvidhIya , Dhavita , adhvitha and VisishtAdhvaitha besides Biography of Nimbarka and His group of SanyAsis . This darsanam is popular in Rajasthan and BrundhAvan , Vraja BhUmi .Their belief in GolOkam has some commonality with Chaithanya Prabhu's preachings . This web site may not the best place for comparitive study of VedAntham and will continue to focus on AchArya RaamAnujA's VisishtAdhvaitham , AzhwAr's aruLiccheyalkaL and Dhivya dEsams .
