Guest guest
Raama - the champion of champions Dear srivaishNava perunthagaiyeer, The following is a lateral thought. And I hope somebody will NOT have any objection to write like this. I consider 'raama the supreme lord' – the great 'manushya avathaaram' - of supreme lord sreeman naaraayaNan as a 'champion of champions'. - When Sage vaalmeeki asked sri naaradha about a 'naran' – 'Evam vidham naram' at the beginning of the kaavyam – naaradhaa explained in short about that naran - raama – later same vaalmeeki wrote about that naran raama through the kaavyam – at the end when brahma glorified raama at the battlefield after raavaNa was killed – brahma reminded raama about his avathaaram and completion of that with killing of raavaNan – and requested to return back to his original abode raama replied 'I am only a ordinary human being' 'aathmaanam maanusham manyE' - so again and again and throughout raamaayaNam he treated himself as 'a simple human' – though in between he did some things which a man cannot think of doing evening dreams. [Ref - athimaanushasthavam sthOthram] Though this great raama claimed 'maanusham' his deeds are – at times not really 'maanusham' – and not really 'amaanusham' also – but great, beyond scales of all 'maanusha' standards. So that guides me to call HIM in my pet way as Champion of champions. Now-a-days we find when a big sports championships are being conducted – say in 'tennis', or 'football', or that crazy game in India called 'cricket' – the final winner is not really playing against all those who participated in the game and defeated them so as to be called really the 'champion'. But in reality that one 'person' or 'team' is praised as the greatest of all and all accolades showered on 'him' or 'them'. Some kind of grouping or 'league' is done and points awarded, or a knockout in groups is provided for, and game decided so that really one need not play against all. May be one or two is selected from each group and they clash, in quarterfinals, semi finals, and finals. Again if you observe closely one is not pitted against all others even at this level. But some kind of 'go byes' in between and finally two meet, and then the winner among two is called 'champion the great'. I am also applying similar rules to my raama, because he is not really meeting all to be called the champion. But he finally emerges the winner, the champion among these. Since each of those is a really champion – having won against many others, I am unable to stop myself in calling my raama as 'champion' alone but call him 'champion of champions'. Who are those all? Raaman – dhasaratha puthran – kosala raaman Vaali – indhra puthran RaavaNan – pulasthya vamsam Kaarthaveeryaarjunan – haihaya tribe Parasuraaman – brugu vamsam Now if you see and analyse – Raama defeated and killed raavaNan – known to everybody – and that is prime aim of his avathaaram. So this is the 'final' in that sports – if we can call so. [– and if I am permitted to do so by the so called protectors of raama the god. The wound is so deep and may take time to heal. So till that time they have to bear with me and my small pricks]. Raama killed vaali – known to everybody – in not a direct challenge to raama – raama played like a last minute substitute but became the main scorer and eventually the final 'emerging winner'. Raama did not really defeat parasuraama – because there was no fight – only a challenge was thrown and in that raama proved his mite and merit. That is all and parasuraama gave raama the 'bye' to raama to emerge winner and champion of champion title. Raama did not have any thing to do with kaartha veeryan because even before raama was born kaarthaveeryan was eliminated by parasuraama. So that bye given by parasuraama to raama includes victory for raama over kaarthaveerayan also – by the sports rules of present day. Or is it that they got these ideas from raamayanam? But then how is raama the 'champion of champions'? that we will continue in next post Dhasan Vasudevan m.g. -- Vasudevan MG
