Guest guest
SrI: Dear Sri Krishnaswamy : SrI: Dear SrI KrishNaswamy : Pavithram ( Dharbai or Gold or Silver) has to be worn on the ring finger , Right hand .In our hands , thumb represents Vaayu , Indes finger , the Sky , Middle , the element of Fire , the Ring finger , the appu or Water and the small finger , Pruthvee tattvam . The significance of Water is celebrated in Mantra Pushpam and Udhaka Saanthi Mantrams . That is the significance of the Ring Finger for wearing Pavithram . Once the cleansing arising from the observance of Vaidhika Karma by one wearing Pavithram made of Kusa grass is over , the pavithram has to be discarded . During Achamaneeyam time , it has to be held over the right ear . Please refer to additional details at: http://www.ibiblio.org/Sripedia/ebooks/sandhya/yv For Vaidhika KarmAs , Only Pavithram made of Dharbham is to be used .Gold Pavithram with just a Thousand year history going back to Taantric worship in Kerala has no place in Vaidhika KarmAs . In Kerala , the goldsmith makes these Pavithram rings with 3 lines representing the three Naadis ( Ida , Pingala and Sushumna) , the knot ( Trimoorthys in their tradition) and the 7 dots on both sides of the knot represnting the Saptha rishis ( Mareechee , Vasishta , Ankeeras , Athri , Pulasthya , Pulakan and Krithi) . The pattern is copied by Tamil Naadu Jewelers now . Ladies also use them now as a jewelery . Although the ladies wear them as Jewelery , they are expected to remove it during their Bahishtai time . The Goldsmith who makes it has to observe certain niyamams duringthe time of making these gold pavithrams . Gold Pavithram can be worn on the hand of the male at all times since it has no Vaidhika significance and sanctifying power like Kusaa grass pavithram . Please ask a local Bruhaspathi to demonstrate how to make a Pavithram from the Dharbham . Guest guest
Respectful Swamin, AdiyEn is grateful for the details on pavitram given by Dr. Satakopan Swami. AdiEn would like to have a clarification. AdiyEn has been told by my Bhrahaspathi that for Bhagavad ArAdhana and Mangala kAryams, the pavitram should be made of two pills, while for apara kArya, it should be made of three pills. On this, adiyEn will be grateful if you can throw some light.
