Guest guest
Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, This mail is more a response and continuation of the listing done in mail Part A: Thanks to Dr. sri MN Ramanuja swamy of bangalore. After I posted the mail no 4, I remembered I downloaded 'sangeetha sampradhaaya pradharsini authored by Sree S ubbarama dhikshithar' and available with me in my collection. When I referred that it is only volume 1 and more volumes are to be collected. Luckily in that Page 194, I could find this guNdakriyaa is covered. So this raagam is guNdakriyaa only. The details given are -- 15.14 janyam (upaangam) 14— gunDakriyaa agni go mnemonic: ra gu ma pa dha nu melam 15 — maaLavagauLa janya raagam (upaangam) 14 — guNDakriyaa lakshaNa slokam —Venkatamakhi guNDakriyaa sagrahEyam avarOhE~(a)lpadhaivataa | sampoorNa poorvayaamE tu gaatavyaa gaayakOttamaih moorcchana =) aarOhaNam: S [r g m p [d n s avarOhaNam: S n p m g m [d p m g [r s lakshaNa details - Subbaraama Dıkshitar upaangam; sampurnam; sadja graham; alpa dhaivatam in the avarOhaNam; suitable for singing in the first yaamam. So the raagam selection indicates an action using some stems [in the fire] or an action using a type of grass – may be an offering in the fire or the grass used as a seat to do some action. Part B: Coming to the listing of the oRRumai vERRumai in the marriages of aaNDaaL and seethaa, I think I missed two more vERRumai-s. 1. AaNdaaL was brought to ranganaathaa's place – maNap peN - bride brought to the groom's place. Whereas in the seethaa's marriage, even though raama is the prince - he walked and reached the bride's place mithila. May be the cultural difference between north and south India is also to be taken into account while describing so. For the bride's procession is the usual one in Tamil culture and being done now also [other than brahmana marriages which is as in northern culture]. In north India it is always the bridegroom who comes in procession on horseback and is called the baraat. 2. aaNdaaL performed some vrathams [nOnbu- which is the thiruppaavai] to attain her husband. There is no such reference from vaalmeeki that seethaa performed some vrathams or nOnbu. Part C: 1. To the comments of Anbil srinivaasan " srinivasan sowmianarayanan " vasans2004 -- saying ramayaNam is the first recorded description etc -- MGV's response: Earlier also lot of marriages as per vEdhic procedures had taken place and that is how we have the 8 classifications as in manu's 'dharma saasthram' which Mrs. Saroja Ramanujam has listed out. But 'seethaa raama kalyaaNam' is the first 'recorded version' available for us as stated by you. 2. To the comments of Sriman " KANNAN SAMPATH " ittblazers_in Swamin, thank you – by the grand understanding of younger generation like you, only the Hinduism in its true spirit survive. 3. To the points of Dr. Saroja Ramanujam in 3 parts – Thank you madam, the classification I wanted to cover a little later and you made my job easy. 4. To the points by Sriman krishNa – quote – " Sri Rama along with Seeta Mata on the wedding altar, Dasaratha and Janaka feasting their eyes on their beauty, all the devatas standing in the large crowd just to have a glimpse of the groom form of Sri Rama. What a sight!" MGV's response is -- yes – exactly – janaka and dhasaratha were just enjoying the beauty of the couple That line in the krithi of thyaagaraaja "even brahmaa and indhra cannot describe your beauty - oh kalyaaNa raama chandhra - reinforces the interpretation to describe the marriage of seethaa and raama. Yes – that is the description, which gave me the clue to link this krithi with seethaa kalyaaNam. In my understanding thyaagaraaja has not described raama as kalyaaNa raama chandhra elsewhere. I will stand corrected if anybody points out the krithi. Let us continue the topic of seethaa raama kalyaaNam in next post.
