Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

 

We saw naaradha maharshi's slokam, "Seethaa, the best among ladies, a possessor of all best qualities [befitting to an ideal lady,] as though fashioned by a Divine marvel she is born in Janaka's family" – 'DhEva maayaa iva nirmitha' is the exact words used – so just for comparison let us see the words of sukha maharshi another great, who also described that 'mOhini' – the vishNu's lady roopam – that Mohini as said by the commentators - during the amrutha mathanam --

 

Slokam 2 of chapter 9 of 8th

skandham

Sri suka uvaacha

ahO roopam ahO Dhhaama ahO asya navam vayah |

 

ithi thE thaam abhidhruthya paprachchhur jaata hrudh sayah ||

 

 

meaning: Suka maharshi said: Upon seeing the beautiful woman, the demons said, " Alas,

 

 

how wonderful is Her beauty,

 

how wonderful the luster of Her body,

 

how wonderful the beauty of Her youthful age! "

Speaking in this way, they quickly approached Her, full of lusty desires to enjoy Her, and began to inquire from Her in many ways.

 

 

Slokam 3 of chapter 9 of 8th

skandham

kaa thvam kanja palasa akshi kuthO vaa kim chikeershasi |

 

kasyaasi vadha vaama ooru mathanthee iva manaamsi nah ||

 

 

meaning: O wonderfully beautiful girl, You have such nice eyes, resembling the petals of a lotus flower.

 

 

Who are You?

 

Where do You come from?

 

What is Your purpose in coming here?

 

To whom do You belong?

O You, whose thighs are extraordinarily beautiful, our minds are becoming agitated simply because of seeing You.

 

 

Slokam 4 of chapter 9 of 8th

skandham

na vayam thvaa amarair dhaithyaih sidhdhha gandharva chaaraNaih |

 

na asprshTa poorvaam jaaneemah lOka eesais cha kuthah nrbhih ||

 

 

meaning: What to speak of human beings, even the demigods, demons, Siddhas, Gandharvas, Caranas and the various directors of the universe, the Prajaapathis, have never touched You before. It is not that we are unable to understand Your identity.

 

 

That roopam is being described by thyaagaraaja also as --

pallavi and anupallavi together -

inthanuchu varNimpa tharamaa brahmaa indhra aadhulakaina

kanthu ni ganna maa chakkani kalyaaNa raama chandhra nee sogasu - intha

 

meaning: Is it possible to quantify even for brahma, Indhra et al?

The charm of our lovely kalyaaNa Raama chandhra, you, oh, the very Father of Manmatha, the cupid.

 

 

While thyaagaraaja describes raama and seethaa together, when we take above two, vaalmeeki's seethaa varNanam and sukha's mOhini varNanam, now I will leave it for you to decide

is it only raama separate

§

or is it seethaa only separate

§

or is it seethaaraama jointly

§

or is it raama the supreme lord sreeman naaraayaNan and his consort seethaa the lakshmi

inseparable. [for we always want specific identities]

§

Or is it that show at their wedding – that 'made for each other' roopam of both.

Great will say only in 'few words' – we only have to infer the meanings from their 'great few words'.

 

Another doubt may come when we sing krithi of thyaagaraaja – in raama's wedding scene, why mention of 'amarai, dhaithyai sidhdha gandharva chaaraNaih as stated by sukha maharshi – because they were all standing in the sky to witness the wedding of raama and immediately when raama took the hands of seethaa they showered flowers and beat the dhundhubi the specialdrum ofdhEvaas. This is said vaalmeeki as -

 

 

28b-29a of sargam 73 baala kaaNdam.

saadhu + saadhu = nice, fine;

ithi + dhEvaanaam + risheeNaam + vadhathaam + thadhaa = thus, of gods, sages, while saying [exclaimed], then;

dhEva + dhundhubhi + nirghOshah = heavenly, drums, drumming;

puSshpa + varsham + mahaan + abhoot = flowers, showers, plentiful, occurred.

 

 

Meaning: Then there occurred a plentiful flower showers, while sages and gods exclaimed " Nice... Fine... " to the drumbeats of heavenly drums.

 

Now, dear readers, the comment given in valmikiramayan website for this slokam is worth reproduction here and is to be enjoyed bit by bit

Comment: What happened to these gods when boyish Raama eliminated thaatakaa and others? Are they any lesser feats than this marriage? And why this drumming and showering flowers and blessings, when it is 'just' a human's marriage?

 

Now the cause for the effect is conjoined to Raama to effectuate their plea to Brahma. If the entire arsenal given by Vi

svamitra is set-aside for a moment, the 'present' given by Janaka is the ultimate weapon, to be used against Raavana.

 

aprameyam hi thath thEjo yasya saa janaka aathmajaa

'unlimited is the energy, to whom Janaka's daughter belongs...'

 

Raama is the instrumental cause in eliminating Raavana, whereas Seethaa is the efficient cause for it. Lanka is ruined by Seethaa, though Hanumaan with the help of Fire-god, but not by Raama or all of the monkeys, put together. And Raama eliminates the half-dead RaavaNa. There are some more flower-showers and drumbeats and dances, later. Unquote –
