Guest guest
Dear Bhagavathas: During my recent trip to Chennai, I retrieved some very old and dusty video tapes from a relative of mine and to my delight and surprise, one of the recorded segments on a tape was a very old telecast in 1987 to commemorate the Samprokshanam at Sri Rangam. Here are the uploads from this tape on YouTube. Please be advised the video quality is sub-optimal since the VHS tape had deteriorated due to passage of time and the humidity in Chennai. Please Enjoy! dAsan Vasudevan A. Samprokshanam: Part 1: The link is: Part 2: The link is: B. Music Concert by Smt.M.S.Subbulakshmi For those of you interested in carnatic music, a special concert of of Smt. M.S.Subbulakshmi was telecast in 1987 to commemorate this event. The videos of this concerts are also uploaded. B.1 Smt. M.S.S singing Tondar adi podi Azhwar paasuram The link is: B.2 Smt. M.S.S singing Saint Thyagaraja’s “O Rangashayee” Unfortunately, the recording is incomplete – first 90 seconds and some part of the neraval are missing – I suspect there was a power failure during the recording. I have uploaded this video in two parts on You Tube: The links are: Part 1: Part 2: Whenever I listen to bhakthi-laden concerts of Smt.MSS (either in person long ago or in recordings now), I always feel that she is singing for Him and she takes us along to be in His presence. Please watch the line “Migula Nogili Divya Rupamunu” at the 2min 25-27 second period in Part -2 and it is unmistakable that she is singing directly for Sri Rangaraja. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
