Dearest all,

 

Oh AzhwAr! I am your companion always! The mind is

indeed fickle. Remember arjuna said the same…

sanchalam hi mana: krishna. But still that mind can be

controlled with practice and detachment. [abhyaasa and

vairAgyam]. There are bhakthas who have and do that

and perform bhakti yoga to attain Me. I would grant

you such a mind. You will also be blessed with mOksha.

– says the Lord. AzhwAr proceeds with his request

further.

mutthu- Shining pearl like cool Lord!

oLi maragathamE – resplendent and shining green stone

coloured Lord!

muzhangu oLi mugil vaNNA! – One whose merciful nature

is like the rain bearing clouds that roar with

thunders and sparkle with lightning!

en attha! My Swami, who is so loving and affectionate

towards me!

Sitthamum sevvai nilladdhu- the instrument, i.e. the

mind is not firm on You.

en seygEn- what can I do?

theevinaiyEn – I, who has committed so many sins which

will stand in the way of constant meditation on You;

patthimaikku anbu udaiyEn AvathE – for myself being

fully devoted to You with no interruption

paNiyaay – please enable me be so;

enthaay – my Father! my Lord!

ninadimai allaal yaadhonRum aRigilEn – Except for

being an eternal servant to You, I never ever think of

anything else at all.

 

My mind is never focused on You always. It may also

mean – in line with ThoNdaradippodi AzhwAr’s

udalenakku urugumaalO en seygEn ulagattheerE. (19th

verse of Thirumaalai) . My body and mind simply melt

looking at Your divinely beautiful divya mangaLa

vigraham. What can I do? Perhaps Thirumangai AzhwAr

implies the same.

 

Bhakthimaikku anbu udaiyEn AvathE- Don’t make me get

involved in bhakti yoga; Instead, simply make me to be

involved in You with love, love and love on You.

What is bhakti? Realizing Him as the Swami and self as

His eternal servant and being devoted to Him at all

times- That’s what AzhwAr says he is always. That one

will have in Paramapadham. Here it is difficult due to

karma, bondage and other bodily relations that exist.

They forget the sesha seshi bhaava in this world. One

should contemplate on Him, with pithA tvam, pAthA

tvam, etc.. Sarva vidha bandhu is He. When one

considers Him as Father, Mother, Son, friend et al,

the love and the extent, nature of that would be

different and varied. Having such a love in different

roles and think of Him alone would bless us with

Paramapadham and then we can have fullest devotion on

His Lotus Feet therein. Hence please bless me with

such kinds of love here so that I will get bhakti

later – says AzhwAr perhaps.

 

What I am asking You- being eternally servant to You.

That’s all. Please bless me with that without any

hurdle or hindrance. Whatever it would grant me,

please retain me in that state of servitude to You.
