Guest guest
SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesika Mahadesikaya nama: Dearest all, Thus there are NO other reasons or causes for moksham-proves AzhwAr. Here AzhwAr praises those who perform bhakti yoga and enlist the eight angas of bhakti yoga [ashtAnga yoga]. iLaippinai yiyakkam neekki yirun^thumun Nnimaiyaik kootti, aLappilaim pulana takki anpavar kaNNE vaiththu, thuLakkamil sin^thai seythu thOnRalum sutarvittu, AngkE viLakkinai vithiyil kANpAr meymmaiyE kANkiR pArE 18 iLaippinai – getting thinner iyakkam- movement neekki irundhu – are ignored and sitting down on slightly higher seat (neither lower or higher) mun imayai kootti – bringing the upper and lower eye lids together (and focus) aLappu il aimpulan adakki – the five sense organs (that do not wander towards their respective vishayams) are inwardly focused and controlled avarkaNN anbu vaiithu- and focus and love is on the Sriya: Pathi Sriman Narayana and on Him the heart is offered; thuLakkam il- without any interruption absolutely (avicchinna) sinthai seydhu – perform bhagavad dhyAnam (penance) AngE- and there providing a right seat in the heart cave; sudar vittu- shining resplendently with guNAs and with strict anushtAnams thOnRal um – in the stage of samaadhi (where it is equal to darsana of the Lord) vidhiyil- in such bhakti yoga viLakkinai – ParamjyOthI (the effulgent Self) kaaNbaar- is seen and enjoyed in the purest hearts meymmai yE kaaNbaar- and they will be blessed to enjoy seeing His divya Divya mangaLa vigraham certainly in Srivaikuntam and His Swaroopa, Roopa, GuNa vibhoothis. Ashtaanga yogam - Yama, niyama, Asana, praaNaayaamam, prathyaahara, dhaaraNa, Dhyaana, Samaadhi are enumerated herein. Yama, niyama – are to be adhered to always. Not just during dhyAnam. From the Asana (seating), the dhyanam is referred to. Seat should be firm; may be with a back rest. iLaippinai neekki- avoiding getting thinner (means- one takes regular intake of bhagavad prasadham and hence hunger does not interrupt dhyAnam); the diseases, back pains are thus avoided (with seat comfortable enough). The seat should neither be high nor low. iLaippinai neekki- not reclining or sleeping; not standing for a long time; thus seating is referred to. Also in accordance with poorvacharya’s commentaries: iLaippu is klESam; mind’s wavering is referred to here. durguNAs are to be avoided. avidyA, asmithai, raaga, dvEsham, avinivESam, are the klESam – says Yoga sutra. avidyA- a~jnAnam; asmathai- ahankara; raagam – desires; dvEsham – hatred; abinivESam- fear of death; or fear as to whether there will be any hurdle for living comfortably. Being under all these states- is klEsam and that is to be avoided or ignored. iLaippinai neekki.. Vidhiyil- all these mode of bhakti yogam, the performance should adhere to the saasthirc injunctions. Not some arbitrary manner. meyymaiyE kaNNbaar- they will be blessed to realize and enjoy seeing.. the divya mangaLa vigraham – the Paranchudar, ParanjyOthi. These bhakti yogins would be blessed and granted by the Lord. He is moksha pradhan. It is because of their bhaagyam they are able to do. – means- others should not venture into (if they are not qualified). They have to look for Prapatti yogam declaring their Akinchanyam (helplessness). kaaNgiRpaarE- AzhwAr praises the bhakti yogins; Bhakto yogam should not be considered as offspring of ahankaaram… as viewed wrongly by some. That is against all other saasthrAs that prescribe bhakti yoga. Here, Thirumangai celebrates Bhakthi Yogam and the Ashtaanga Yogam that precedes it. This Jewel of a Pasuram on Bhakti Yogam can also be considered as an indirect mangalaasaasanam of Deepaprakasan (ViLakkoLi Perumal). He reveals that the final stage(Dhyaanam) of the Ashtaanga Yogam(Yama, Niyama, Aasana, Praanaayama, Pratyaahaara, Dharana and DHYANA), RESULTS in the visualization of the resplendent Lord ( Darsana Samanaakaaram). The successful practioners of Bhakthi Yogam thus enjoy the Lord as a Splendid and bright flame of a lamp in their minds(fruits of of Savikalpa Samaadhi).
