Guest guest
Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, We saw one slOkam of sukhar describing rukmiNi. Now let us see the next one. suchi smithaam bimba phala adhhara dhyuthi sONaayamaana dhvija kundha kuDmalaam | padhaa chalantheem kula hamsa gaamineem sinjath kalaa noopura dhhaama sObhinaa vilOkya veeraa mumuhuh sama aagathaa yasasvinah thath krutha hrudh chaya ardhithaah || 10-53-52 meaning: RukmiNi · smiled sweetly [suchi smithaa], her jasmine-bud teeth reflected the glow of her bimba-red lips - kundha kuDmalaam dhvija sONaayamaana dhyuthi bimba phala adhharaa – [here dhvija means tooth] when she walked it was with the motions of a royal swan - kula hamsa padhaa chalantheem [iva] gaaminee the effulgence of her tinkling ankle bells beautified her feet - kalaa noopura sinjath sObhinaa dhhaama they became stupefied, dropped their weapons and fell unconscious to the ground from their elephants, chariots and horses. In the internet I got a list giving description of beauty and qualities of rukmiNi which I share with you here. "Qualities of RukmiNi dhEvi': ruchira aananaam - whose face is charming [10-52-18] vara aananaa – charming faced [10-52-21] krishNascha sadhruseem bhaaryaa – a fitting or equal wife to krishNa [10-52-24] hriyaa, vriiDaa – shy sathee - exalted, of saintly character budhdhhi - possessing intelligence lakshaNaa - possessing auspicious bodily markings audhaaryaa – magnanimous seelaa - of proper behavior dhEvee - the divine goddess asitha apaangee - dark-eyed mOhinee – enchanting mahathee – aristocratic dheeraa - sober-minded kulavathee - of good family lakshaNa abhijn~aa - an expert knower of bodily symptoms aaraadhithaa – person having rendered devotional service math paraam aathmaa arpithaa - dedicated exclusively to KrishNa anavadhya angeem sObhaa – having a body of flawless beauty suchismithaa - sweetly smiling varaarOhaa – lady of lovely hips bimba-phala-adharaa – having glowing bimba red lips syaamaa - firm breasts {MGV has doubt on this translation] chalantheem kula hamsa iva - walking with the motions of a royal swan su madhyamaa - shapely waisted govinda-hrtha maanasaa - whose mind is stolen by Krishna guna aasrayaa - a repository of all other good qualities [Point- that list contains 26 only - except item 2 - which I added and gave references to slokam also] Such a beautiful rukmiNi answers when dhroupathee asked "please describe your marriage", [in 10th skandham chapter 83 slokam 6,7] she replies in one slOkam chaidhyaaya maa arpayithum udhyatha kaarmukEshu raajasvajEya bhaTa sEkharitha angri rENuh | ninyE mruga indhra iva bhaagamajaaviyuthhaath thath sree nikEtha charaNO~asthu mama archinaaya || slokam 8 meaning: Sri RukmiNi said: 'Like a lion taking his share from a herd of goats and sheep, took He, who puts the dust of His feet upon the heads of invincible fighters, me away, when the kings with their bows stood ready in order to offer me to Sisupaala, may the feet of Him, the abode of Sree, be my object of worship'. Point: perhaps many of you wonder why all of a sudden this slokam here – just to give reference to show the quality of rukmiNi – even though she has become the consort of the supreme lord and long time also has passed by the time when dhroupathee meet the queens of krishNa [all queens - by then krishNa has finished the job of marrying several ladies] she says with all humility in the world "may the feet of Him, the abode of Sree, be my object of worship". See the pathi bhakthi, and she also knows the relationship that exists between 'krishNa' and 'krishNaa' – I mean dhoupathee. Such a 'quality' lady and such a 'beauty' rukmiNi addressed or started the love letter 'sruthvaa guNaan bhuvana sundharaa'. So 'kEttadhanaal vandha kaadhal'. Which comes first – quality or beauty – arise the doubt now - or both or equally important? Ponder over. We will continue in next post.
