Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

 

We read the whole love letter of rukmiNee as conveyed by the braahmaNa to the supreme lord krishNa. And he reacted to that saying 'I do not get sleep in the night keeping rukmiNee in my mind' [as in bhaagavatham]. When the braahmaNa finished his communication, krishNa immediately called for the chariot and dhaaruka, the driver, was ready at the seat. [slokam 4, 5 in chapter 53].

 

Comment: See how lord also reacts to his ladylove's 'request' [or 'command'?] So, on the lighter side, perhaps he is the first to obey to the wife's command [even before she became the wife]. And we, dear common folks, all, simply follow HIS rules and procedures in this aspect also. No further analysis please, on whether it is because of 'love' 'affection' 'sympathy' or any other such reason.

 

Continuation: NaaraayaNa Theertha also reflects similar sentiments in his slokams,

 

likithvaa likitham dhaththam vipra hasthhEtha kanyayaa

gruheethvaa likitham viprah thvrayaa dhvaarakam yayou ||

 

so when rukmiNi finished her letter and gave to the braahmaNa, he rushed to dhvaaraka immediately.

 

sa gathvaa dhvaarakaam ramyaam dhrushtvaa gopaala nandhanam

vignaapayaamaasa harou rukmiNyaa likitham dhvijah ||

 

meaning: The braahmaNa reaching dhvaaraka, saw the beauty of dhvaarakaa and requested and gave the letter of rukmiNee to krishNa, the gopaala nandhana.

 

KrishNa, on receiving the letter from rukmiNee, left dhvaaraka and reached rukmiNee, in mind, writing a reply – as described by naaraayana theertha – see below --

ithi vipra mukhaath sruthvaa rukmiNyaa likitham harih |

prathyuththaram likithvatha thathra ganthum manO thaTE ||

 

krishNa's reflection on rukmiNee –

hE soonasthra samullasath virahiNee samhaara dhOshaath iha praapthO~si

thvam anangathaam thava saraah panchathvamaapur dhruvam

chaapasthE dharaNeem gathah smara nadhee kaamee thvadheeyO dhvajah

thvEvam kruchra gathO~pi manmadha vadhoo himsaa guNam nO~jjasi ||

akaLanga kamalaaptha soumyah sourir bavaamsthu sakalangah

kamalaarih ugra mouLih katham indhO thavaapyathE vidhu naama ||

 

the point here krishNa coveys his feelings as 'hey dear girl, I am able to realize you are being tortured by manmatha's 5 arrows, also the moon – how it disturbs you or burns you due to viraham – separation from lover'.

 

The Sanskrit is more beautiful.

To name the 'moon', poet uses kamala ari ugra mouli – kamala is lotus – ari is its enemy – when moon appears in sky lotus closes itself thus stops itself from blossoming or open condition. So moon becomes lotus's enemy. That moon is on head of angry siva – ugra mouli, so naturally hey rukmiNee – moon will be hot to you and burn you – because you are a virahiNee – suffering from separation of lover.

 

After observing krishNa's favourable reactions, the BraahmaNa returned in same chariot of krishNa, along with him [says bhaagavatham – slokam 6 chapter 53].

 

On that NT says --

sree krishNa hrudhayam gnaathvaa punah aagamya dhvijah |

sree krishNa aagamana uthsaaham praaha baishmeem prathi priyam||

 

meaning: noting krishNa's mind, the braahmaNa returned to rukmiNee's place and conveyed to rukmiNee, the happy news of krishNa's arrival in the capital.

 

Here again NT places a tharangam – a wave of happiness in that communication of the braahmaNa – announcing the arrival of krishNa to his ladylove - in raagam yadhukul kaambOdhi – aadhi thaaLam

 

pallavi:

vanamaalee khila noonam vasudhEva apathyam

sanakaadhi muni jana hrudh kamala samvEdhyam

 

charaNam:

1. charaNam jagathaam Eva sakala antharaathmaa

thvarayaa Eva aayaathi harih vaira mathim aathanuthE

 

2. chaarudharENa rathhEna dhaaruka saarathinaa

dhvaaravathee nagaraath aayaathi thava swaamee

 

3. kshEmam kuruthE thava sa ksheeraa abdhhi sayee

sreemaan akila aathmaa saameekara parithaanee

 

4. maa paalE kuru chinthaam manjudharaa laabhE

maadhavam Eshyasi noonam vasudhaa thala thilakam

 

5. hari charitham madhu naaraayaNa theertha udhgaLitham

parijana munivara maththa bramaraih aapeetham

 

hey rukmiNee, your lord, that milk ocean lying, reached here from dhvaaraka, he has brought welfare to you.

 

He also says 'hari charitham is madhu' – honey or wine – does not make a difference to bhakthaas – because the poet has turned into bee enjoying that – let us join NT in that, enjoying his wave of love of krishNa.
