Guest guest
THE NEW BORN BABY PARTY The grandmother was enquiring what was given to her grandchild by the neighbour as a gift during the 'thottil' function. It is customary in those days to visit new born children with sugar in a vessel. A few rupees pressed in the tender fingers is also done. Opulent relatives adorn the child with golden chains. The aunt -maternal aunt-athai is expected to present anklets and bracelet/bangles. The whole house is decorated with festive atmoshpere with balloons and colour papers hanging around. Imagine the God Himself born as baby and who would make the beeline and what would be the presents handed over? Such thoughts would emerge only to those blessed souls like Sri PeriAzvar. The illustrious guests start coming in. It is BrhamaDevan who comes along with a wonderful Golden thottil embedded with diamonds in between. It is kaNakamaNi chain to be donned in the thin waist prsented by Rudran. The pretty kiNkiNi is placed for the baby by indiran. The dhEvars present valampuir conch and kinKiNi for the divine feet. The panchAyudham and the HAram by vaisravaNan. Peral necklace and bangles are brought by VaruNan. ThirthuzhAi mAlai and kaRpaga mAlai is brought by none other than pirATTi. The surigai-small hip knife- and kanaka bangles are presented by bhUmip pirATTi. The perfumes and cosmetics like kasthUri,manjal etc are provided by DurgADevi. After the party the family anlase the presents and the guests who attened the function. Remember the illustrious list of Brhama, Rudran, IndirAdhi DHEvargaL, pirATTi , DurgaDevi who presented with Gold and ohter ornaments of diamonds, pearls, weapons and perfumes and cosmetics. Sri MamunikaL spcifies that these deities viist EmperumAn wherever He takes incarnations and do whatever is little possible of them- kinchithkarithal. Even today such new born baby parites are still existing but to imagine such a type of parties and presents to the Supreme Being as a divine baby is indeed unique which constitutes another gamut of PeriyAzvar's thinking in the psaurams PeriyAzvAr thirumozhi 1-3 mANikkam katti-brhaman viduthanthAn- BrahmA-1-3-1 kaNakamaNi...-vidayERu kAbAli-Rudran 2 ezhulaidak kiNkiNi..-indhiran thAnum-RudrA- 3 sankin valampuri...-amarargaL pothandhAr-DevAs 4 azhagiya aimpadai-vayichirAvanan-Visravanan 5 oLi muthin Aramum..-varuNan viduthanthAn-VaruNan6 narunthuzhAi.kaRpaga thin vAsigai-thirumangai pOthanthAL-pirATTi 7 poRsurigai-kambuthugil-avaNiyAL-BhUmip pirATTi 8 meithimirum nANum-manjaL-anjanam-sindhuram-----seiya kalai pAgi-DurgA DEvi 9 A list brought out in wonderful verses dasan vanamamalai padmanabhan
