Guest guest
Deceptive Appearance Jasmine or White Conch The television was blaring and the song 'malligaiyai vensangAi vaNdinangaL vUdhum..' was reverberating. This was from one of the tamil films 'Sri Raghavendra'. Sri LankA broadcasting Corporation used to relay woderful songs based on tamil literature/ religious works -'Podhigaith thenRal' Neither this is a write-up on film or film songs. The aforementioned words 'malligayai ven-sangAi vaNdinangaL vUdhum' is a typical illustration of how our works are being exploited. There can be no second opinion that AzvAr-s works are rich in language, high in content and sweet when chanted. Therefore, a serious student of tamil ought to get inspired from these. The beetle (vaNDu) goes to suck the nectar from the jasmine. The jasmine is just to blossom and its head is slightly bent and is in the shape of a conch. The white nature of the flower exactly appears like a white conch and the insect looking for honey is just like simulating the blowing of the conch. Such classic example again emerges from our PeriAzvAr and it goes to prove that AzvAr-s works pervade all fields, be it religious or non religious, commercial or otherwise. here is the AzvAr pAsuam 'emeprumAn guNam pADi, malligai ven sangUdhum ....' 4-8-8; dasan vanamamalai padmanabhan
