SrimathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya nama:

Dearest all,

When AzhwAr paid his obeisance to the divya mangaLa

vigraham that He did not actually and physically see

and enjoy, the Lord shows Himself to AzhwAr the same

moorthy in ThirukkOviloor and AzhwAr enjoys Him in

this divya desam and bursts out herein divinely in

this verse.

alampurindha nedundhadakkai amarar vEndhan

anciRaippuL thanippaagan avuNark kenRum,

salampurinthaNG karuLillaath thanmai yaaLan

thaanugandha voorellaam thanthaaL paadi,

nilamparandhu varumkaluzip peNNai yeertha

neduvEygaL padumuttha mundha vundhi,

pulamparandha ponviLaikkum poygai vElip

poongOva loorthozhudhum pOthu nencE! 6

alam purindha – [it is enough – one would say] thus He

holds His hand, in His divine body;

nedu thada – long, broad

kaiyan – handed Lord;

amarar vEndhan – Deva Devan; Chief of Nithyasuris;

am siRai puL thani pagan – the most beautiful

feathered Garuda Pakshi (Bird)’s One and Only Master,

Our Swami;

avuNarkku enRum- For asurAs, rakshasas – always

salam purindhu aruL illA – He never shows mercy on

them; angers on them for their apacharams to His

devotees;

thanmai Alan – such great natured Trivikraman;

thaan ugandha – On His own desire and accord;

oor ellAm – where He shows Himself so gracefully in

all divya desams

(thanmaiyALan) than – on [such above mentioned[

perumAL;

thaaL paadi – praising and singing His Lotus Feet

nenjE- oh my mind! You

nilam parandhu – expands all over the land and runs

varum kaluzhi peNNai – such turbulent flodded PeNNai

river

eerttha VEygaL padu muttham – the pearls that come out

of bamboos that are plucked out by the river current;

undha undhi- are brushed aside by the river (and by

the people (as they are not interested in pearls))

pulam parandhu – found and expanded, spread out

everywhere;

pon viLaikkum – the gold itself spurts out as the

grain in these fields;

poygai vEli poo kovaloor – Thirukkovaloor surrounded

by most beautiful watery fields

thozhuthum – Let us prostrate

poadhu – Come (oh mind!)

In last verse- AzhwAr was talking great about

Maabhali; now VishNu is the vaLLal’ benevolent One;

When Lord asked; Bhali could not even fulfill the

three measures of earth; The last one could not be

given and hence he lowered his head in shame for being

unable. Whereas, the bhakthas tell VishNu – It is

enough; the Lord grants so much to them and continue

to give them… engum thiruvarul petru inbuRuvar.. petra

thaayinum aayina seyyum…

He is such a vaLLal.

Nedunkai- long handed One- even if someone is very

far; even if someone yells for Him from afar; He would

extend His hand and save (Remember Draupadi). He has

such a long and broad hand, one show of His hand is

enough for us for eternity. No need for second time…

Also one need not have to go to others for help;

Enough. He alone is enough.

Amarar vEndhan – They asked; Devas, BrahmA – et al-

they went and asked and begged Him for saving them.

Also those who do not ask for anything else –

Nithyasuris- virakthars – for them also He is the lord

and grants them everything.. [neeL selvam vENdAthAn

thannaiyE thaan vENdum selvam] – such a long handed

One;

amsiRai- For protecting the sAdhus, and for removing

the enemies, the ever ready Divine Bird Garuda extends

his feathers; the one who is never ever for others;

Only for Him and Mahalakshmi alone

Angry on asurAs always- for their apcharams to his

devotees.

kshipAmyajasram asubhAn aasoorishvEva yOnishu –

paadi – can be mixed with thozhudhum – everywhere let

us enjoy singing in praise of Him and prostrate at His

Lotus Feet.

OR

oh mind, the one who kept singing in praise of Him

everywhere – let us go to Thirukkoviloor now sing in

praise of Him as well.

Poygai vEli- Not only does this refer to the fertile

fields; also the place reverberated with Poygai Bho,

Peyazhwar’s verses.. such a great divya desam.
