14. Pumsavanam ( Mookku Pizhithal)

14.1 When the pregnancy ( garbham) is seen clearly ( during the 3rd or the 4th month) , Pumsavana samskAram should be done ; it should be done when Poosa nakshathram is in ascendance .

14.2 Poosam and other Five nakshathrams ( Hastham , Moolam , SravaNam , Punarpoosam and Mruugaseersham ) are " Male/Purusha " nakshathrams and hence they are recommended for Pumsavana

samskAram .

14.3 Pumsavanam should be performed during each pregnancy . Some opine that it needs to be done only for the first pregnancy . It should however be understood that those who desire the birth of a male child should elect to perform Pumsavanam during each pregnancy .

15. Seemantha SamskAram

15.1 Seemantham has to be performed during the 4th or the sixth or the 8th month of pregnancy and even all the way upto Prasavam (birth of the child) . This samskAram confers suddhi ( cleanliness) to the woman and therefore it is considered sufficent to do it for the first prasavam ( for a child bearing woman) . There are others who think that this samskAram confers suddhi for the child and therefore , it should be performed

during each pregnancy .

Seemantham is a very important samskAram for the pregnant woman that it should be done without fail even when the husband may be away in a foreign land or has met with death during the pregnacy of his wife .

The brother in law or the AchAryan or the close relative with rights for soucham ( dAyAdhis) should take the initative to complete this samskAram .

A note from Sri VaishNava Kendhram Deevalur N.V. SrinivAsAcchAr Swamy :

1. Bullets and sub-bullets have been added to the main text of Sri MutthusAmi Iyer for ease of understanding.

2. adiyEn can provide answers to Vaidhika KarmAs in practise and it will not be possible for adiyEn to answer questions like " why this procedure is recommended " or " why should n't it be the other way ".
