NamaskaramI had the privilege of participating in the Kalyana Utsavam of Lord of Lord Venkateshwara Yesterday at Island Grounds, Chennai and which was attended by more than 2 Lakhs of people. The local advisory members of the TTD as well as the Devasthanam have made excellent arrangements for this event. Everyone was given a pocket containing Rava Kesari, Puliyodarai, Laddu and a water bottle as soon as entered the venue. Veluudi Krishnanswamy was the moderator, explaining the significance of the rituals connected to this marriage. Singers from Andhra sang the Annamacharya's kirthanai for the occasion. The entire function took more than 2 Hours and the people were extremely patient. One of the unique feature of the celebration was the Sankalpam made by everyone present for conducting this marrige for the Lord of the Lords- Chief Priest delivering the Sankalapa manthras and repeated by the devotees present. At the en everyone felt that they have not only participated the fun ction but also conducted by them.People from IAS cadre are of administrative skills which they acquire during their intensive training in the initial stage and thereafter pratical exposure to the various fields of Administration. This has been proved in TTD also where the CEO is always from IAS cadre. They are supported by experienced people in temple adminsitration for long Years. Hence the arrangements that they have made for Yesterday's marriage, attended by lakhs of people have been extremely good.People of Chennai should feel proud that they have been given this privilege. In the last but not the least I would like to make one more word of appreciation. The eloborate way in which the entire ritual was performed has no equal even to the one performed as Kalyana Utsavam everyday in the devasthanam hall at Thirumala. There entire function would be over in 45 or 60 minutes.

I was also one of the blessed one to attend the Deiveega Thirumanam. It has been the practice of TTD to conduct such Kalyanams in far and remote places for the benefit of such people who can not attend / arrange for Kalyana Uthsavam at Thirumala. It was the 39th occasion and second in Chennai. We were told in the Utsavam that the Urchava Moorthys of Thirumala for whom Kalyanams are performed were brought for this occasion. Island ground in Chennai is a spacious area near Chepauk, Marina Beach and Secretariate, where Exibitions on behalf of Govt Of Tamilnadu take place annually. The Thirukkalyanam started after 6.00 Pm on 6-04-2008 and went up to 8.00 PM. Also Annamacharya keerthanams were sung in between. At the end there was the Dance performance of SMT Padma Subrahmanyam. Sun TV also covered the event live.

The Kalyana utsavam was broadcast live by the Sun News Channel for close

to three hours between 6 and 9 pm. Jaya tv was showing a recorded

version, eventhough they had earlier announced that a live coverage will

be made.

 

This is perhaps the first time Sun tv is doing such a coverage.

 

Though the video was good, the audio was not perfect, with frequent

mixing of commentary by different persons and periods of unintended

silence. But Vellukudi swami's brief explanation of the significance of

the different ceremonies was very illuminating.

 

Those who could be present on the island grounds and watch the function

are really blessed. More than 2 lakh lucky people had the bhagyam of

being present to participate in the kalyana utsavam.

The Kalyana Utsavam of GIVYA THAMPATHIS witnessed in person by those 2 Lakhs of people & Millions over the TV Channels - Sun & Jaya - are really blessed. Shriman Velukkudi Krishnan Swamigal gave excellent Synopsis on the events of the Kalyana Mahotsavam. I observed & moved so much ahen a GARUDA PAKSHI started miving in CIRCLE over the Perumals ftom 5.55 PM to 6.05 PM, when hundreds of Crows flew awat from the nearby trees.
