Dear sri vaishNava

perunthagaiyeer,

 

We saw in the previous post, how

vaalmeeki introduced the next 'desire laden' or 'kaama mohitha' character

ayOmukhi, glorifying all the time the mismatch in love, she had on lakshmaNa –

that 'porundhaak kaadhal'.Sage vaalmeeki gives only 8 slokams and kamban

elaborates more on ayOmukhi – giving

importance to that porundhak kaadhal – since kamban's verses are worth enjoying

for their lyrical beauty and deep meanings besides the unjust 'kaama mOhitha' –

we will see this and then go into other persons kaamam.

Meaning: when she breathes

fire comes out, she has a stomach that can hold and digest even stones munched

through her teeth and she is enjoying that. She wears a big snake as the

garland and that snake shakes her big breasts. Her eyes are like big pits.

Meaning: In that pitty

eyes the eyeballs are like lions' or yaaLi's, eyeballs protruding, and thus she

has very dark face, shaped like the stretch of snake – paambin padam. Her steps

are uneven and jingling, looks like the entire world will be easily shaken

because of the steps [sizewise she is so huge].

 

Kolari – singam - lion

paNi – padam eduththa paambu,

snake

muRRiya gnaayiru – the sun became

old – means he has gone and darkness set in.

 

aazhi vaRakka mugakka amaindha

moozhai enap poli moi pila vaayaaL

koozhai puRaththu virindhadhu Or kOtpaal

oozhi neruppin uruththanai oppaaL – 45 ayOmukhip padalam

 

Meaning: When you want to

drain the ocean, you need a big spoon – her mouth is having such a shape or a

big hole, which looks like the spoon to drain of ocean – so big. Her hair is

spread out in a curve and spread. She looked like the last big fire – kaalaagni

- to destroy whole world.

 

moozhai – agappai – a large spoon

 

koozhai – koonthal

kOdu – dhandham, karai – river

bank, vaLaivu – a bend.

pilam – hole – [bilam in Sanskrit

– taken as it is as pilam in tamil for there is no bi but all are pi only]

 

POINT: Such a monstrous

figure is ayOmukhi - on seeing her LakshmaNa reacts as

aaya arakkar kaNaththu Or

aam ivaL enbadhu uNarnthaan – 50 ayOmukhip padalam

 

Meaning: LakshmaNa

realized, she is like another thaatakaa, who lost her nose [chopped earlier by

me] she is another 'thorn like' raakshasa [of same clan as thaatakaa]

 

kaNdagar – muL pOnra kodiya

raakshasar – khandaka in Sanskrit is thorn.

 

Such an ayOmukhi suddenly falls in love with LakshmaNa and says – in all her

romantic mood - to LakshmaNa

uyiraik kadidhu eegudhi enRaaL -- 53 ayomukhip padalam

 

Meaning: she said, "hey,

greatly beautiful and valourous, come let us romance, so far nobody has touched

my breasts and I want you to embrace me, with your gold coloured shining gem

like broad chest, and spread on my breasts,

come let us enjoy, come fast"

 

In that romantic mood, she lifted

and carried LakshmaNa – the poet describes that as

aangu

avaL maarbodu kaiyin adangi

poonkazhal

vaar silai meevi polindhaan

veengiya

venchina veezh madha vempOr

oNkal

urikkuL uruththiran oththaan – 61 ayomukhip padalam

 

Meaning: [since she placed

LakshmaNa on her chest while embracing him] he became insignificant between her

breasts and hand, and looked like a small shining beautiful gem stone laid in a

black surface, like the rudhran [sivan] among a beastly elephants' stock.

 

oNkal – azhagiya

 

Dear

readers, see how the 'mismatch love' – more a 'kaamam' – 'beastly desire' is at

its best described here in this padalam. That is why I thought we will enythat

and then move to other points.
