Saama Sakkai is a village 6 kms from Thirthuraipoondi. Residents of the village were disciples of Srirangam Srimath Andavan and were exponents of the Saama Veda, and trace their ancestry to Velamoor in Kanchipuram district. The village houses a temple for Sri Varadaraja Perumaal which is reputed to be more than 200 years old. Several Andavans have graced the village in the past. Due the migration of Brahmin families from the village, ravages of nature and poor maintenance, the temple is in an extreme state of disrepair. The village people are making efforts to renovate the temple and have requested support. People interested in supporting this effort may please get in touch with me for more details.
