Request to add DD Podhigai to DirectTV in the U.S.

Dear Bhagavathas:

 

As you all know, DD Podhigai broadcasts excellent programs

and we (in the U.S) do not have access to this channel. I have started

corresponding with DirectTV to request them to add Podhigai to their line-up in

TamilDirect Service Pack since they already offer a DD India in their HindiDirect

Service Pack. Following is my email correspondence to DirectTV.

 

My request to Bhagavathas living in the U.S. – could please

send an email to DirectTV requesting DD Podhigai? If more people write to them

, they might move quickly and take action.

There are tens of thousands of families from Tamil Nadu

(one of the most populous states in India) living in the United States. Almost

all of them are highly educated (usually Doctors, Software engineers and

Professors) and have very high disposable incomes. They are also very religious

and most of them belong to the Hindu Religion. DD Podhigai is part of the

DoorDharshan (DD) Family that is Government-Operated and is broadcast from

Tamil Nadu. Since DD Podhigai broadcasts culturally rich and religiously popular

programs, DD Podhigai will draw numerous new high-income customers to DirectTV.

Please note that DD Podhigai is already offered in South East Asia and the

Middle East by their respective satellite operators.

 

Since you already have a relationship with

Doordharshan-DD (you offer DD India, Channel 2025 under your HindiDirect

Package), you could possibly negotiate easily the addition of DD Podhigai to

your TamilDirect package.

Thank you for your suggestion. I sent an email to watchIndiaTV and

followed it up with a phone call to watchIndiaTV and requested to add DD Podhigai.

Apparently, they are in negotiation with different Tamil Channels (he was not

sure about the details) and they will be adding a few channels next month.

He asked me to call on Tuesday to speak to one of the managers.

 

If other bhagavathas could also email/call them (www.watchindia.tv

) and request DD Podhigai, may be we will get lucky.

Dear Kanna,

 

 

 

 

 

It is going to take a massive movement to have DirectTV

channel pick up Pothigai! The number of SriVaishnavas living in North

America may not be that many to to this channel. I am talking of

people who are 60 years and older who really love to watch such

programs! Some senior citizens like me may have some interest,

others may have very minimal interest! Writing in to launch this

channel is not in my huble opinion going to catch the momentum!

We all know how much Jaya Lalitha is struggling to launch her JayaTV

station on the cable because of politics and Sun TV does not want other

Tamil Channels to be beamed to North America and other countries, lest

they'll lose their subscriptions to Sun.

 

 

 

 

 

I think it would be a good idea to approach Watch

India.TV (visit their site www.WatchIndia.TV)

being aired via computer/internet connection. We might have better luck

and easy access for Fellow SriVaishnavites like me living in NA to watch and

enjoy this program. Moreover, WatchIndia.TV is now offering some of the

paid channels that are costing $60 or $70 per channel for a paltry $16.99/month

(for upto three channels) without any long term contracts. They are

hungry to launch various channels and get their subscriptions going! I am

sure, they will listen to us.

 

 

 

 

 

Forgive me if my idea seems running counter to what you have

all been trying to accomplish!
