Sri:

Dear Devotees of ThiruppAvai :

In the previous posting , we covered the Book relating to ThiruppullANi.

In this posting , we will cover the second book released recently by ParamahamsEdhyAti Srimad SrImushNam Andavan Swamy observing His ChAturmAsyam at ThiruppullANi .

The name of the second book is: " Thirukkudanthai Munivarin ThiruppAvai ViLakkam ( with SrI Munitraya SampradhAya Guru ParamparA)".It is priced at Rs.200/

The addendum of the AchArya paramparai of Sri MUnitraya SampradhAyam assembled in this book is a great treasure house of information .

This book has 165 Pages ; ThiruppAvai UpanyAsa Saaram of ParamahamsEdhyAti

Thirukkudanthai Andavan for the 30 Paasurams are covered in 123 Pages; the remaining 42 pages record the vaibhavam of SrI Munitraya SampradhAya Guru

Paramparai ; the publisher is Sriman ChEtlur VaradAchAri RangarAjan Swamy.

This precious book can be purchased from Srimad Srirangam Andavan Asramam at Sir DesikAchAr Road as well .

Srimad ParamhamsadhyEti Sri Thirukkudanthai Andavan's scholarship of dhivya prabhandhams was legendary .His UpanyAsa saili had few matches. His wit and instructional style was exemplary.AasthikAs used to flock to Thirukkudanthai

Srimad Andavan's upanyAsams on Srimad RamayaNam and dhivya Prabhandham. His Maargahzi month upanyAsams on ThiruppAvai attracted a large number of sishyas . and abhimAnis . Once some one recorded 66 tapes of Srimad Andavan's ThiruppAvai upanyAsams , the summary of which provided the basis of this book that can be appreciated now by not only the contemproraies of Srimad Andavan and also by those who did not have the bhAgyam to hear this yatheendhrar's upanyAsams in person .

Inview of the inability to cover the entire content of these upanyAsams , adiyEn will highlight excerpts from the commentary of Srimad Andavan on selected paasurams .

Those who could read the entire book are bhAgyasAlis indeed !

EXCERPTS FROM SELECTED PAASURAMS :

*** AvatArikai: " There would be aastikAs to hear ThiruvAimozhi Kaalakshepam; there would also be AstikAs to listen to Srimad RaamayaNa pravachanam .It would however be difficult to find peole to listen to ThiruppAvai "--Swamy ParAsara

Battar

Here Swamy ParAsara Battar meant that the depth of anubhavam in ThiruppAvai

is much deeper than those experienced in ThiruvAimozhi and Srimad RamAyaNam . We have to remember that Srimad Thirukkudanthai Andavan is one of the few , who can attract a huge assembly of AasthikAs for His upanyAsams on ThiruppAvai because of His ability to intrepret those deep thoughts of Andal housed in ThiruppAvai ( almost 50 hours of ThiruppAvai UpanyAsam recorded in 66 Tapes)

and connect them to what happens in people's lives .

*** The word " PaRai " is found nowhere else in the dhivya Prabhandhams except in ThiruppAvai. The word "PaRai" refers to the union of the Naayakan , the Lord with the Jeevans( Naayikais) and therefore this union elevates Thiruppavai over all other Prabhandhams.

*** Paasuram 1: "MArghazhi ThingaL" : This Paasuram defines as to who are the AdhikAris to observe the Paavai nOnpu ... There is no need to select a date for performing SaraNAgathy . The day in which a desire to perform SaraNAgathy arises , that itself is the auspicious day ( mathi nannAL) .

*** Dhanur Maasam and Dhanur Lagnam( ChiRRam Chiru Kaalai Pozhuthu) : The AarAdhanam performed even for one day during this month and lagnam at early

morning will yield phalan equivalent to performing 12 years of AarAdhanam for

the EmperumAn .

*** NeerAda Pothuveer: NeerAttam is the Bhagavath anubhavam of the Lord by the bejeweled girls with their BhagavAn .

*** PAASURAM 2: "Vyatthu VaazhverkAL "

Vyaathu VaazhverhAL : Those who lived in KrishNaavathAra Kaalam and enjoyed KrishNAnubhavam right here on earth are being adressed here....Vyaam also means a chariot .KaThOpanishad describes our body as a chariot , the jeevan as the Passenger and the Buddhi as the charioter, our nose and other ten indhriyams as the ten horses drawing that chariot etc. Vyatthu Vaazhbhavar are the ones that travel round and round in their chariots ( VaNDikaL) and miss reaching their destination , SrI Vaikuntam .

Paasuram 3: " Ongi ulahaLantha"

Vaalmeeki did not speak on any avatAram of the Lord other than RaamAvataram . He was therefore like a Pathivrathai . Even Vaalmiki was moved to speak high about

Vaamana-Triviram avatAram as he narrated the story to Raama and LakshmaNan

thru the words of ViswAmitrA . " Vaamanaavatharatthaip-paRRi pathivrathayaana Vaalmeekiyum pEsinAr".

Concern about the Thiruvadi shooting up into the sky :

" MahA Bali dhAna phalan peRROm yenRu iRumAntiruntAn ; DevEndharan izhanta Raajyatthai peRROm yenRu uhantriruntAn ; Kaadu mEdu tANDip-pOhum Thiruvadi yentha suvarin meethu mOthumO yenRu azha(angu) yArum illai ". Srimad Andavan quotes this moving commentary of a VyAkhyAna karthA here : There was MahA Bali haughty over the thought that he has recieved the phalan of his dhAnam ; Indhran was there sitting smug with the satisfaction of regaining his empire . There was no one during the time of the Lord's Thiruvadi shooting up skyward to worry and weep about any calamity befalling the Lord's tender feet by hitting any wall or obstacle as the Thiruvadi reached the roof of aNDam and pierced it . What an anubhavam

of the Sacred feet !

Ninth Paasuram: " ThUmaNi Maadatthu"

When the ghOshti invites this sleeping Gopi to wake up and join the neerAttam , she asks what that noNpu was for .The Gopi from the ghOshti responds that the vratham was for gaining KrishNan . The awakened haughty Gopi retorts : Why should we observe the vratham to get Him ? He should perform the vratham to get us !

MaNIkkathavam tALL tiRavAi : if the entrance door to the Lord is locked , AchAryALs alone can open it .

Paasuram 13: "PuLLin vaay keeNDAnai"

Here , the Gopis enjoy Raaman and KaNNan alternately .

Swamy Battar's itheehyam is quoted here by Srimad Andavan: In response to sishyan's request to identify a family engaged in the anubhavam of EmperumAn ,

Battar says: " It is RaavaNa kudumbam . RaavaNan enjoyed the veeryam of Raaman; KumbhakarNan admired the souryam of the Lord; VibheeshaNan was overcome by the souseelyam of Raaman; SoorpaNai was overtaken by the soundharyam of the Lord. Thus all the members of this kudumbham were deeply involved in enjoying the Lord ".

Fourteenth Paasuram : " UngaL Puzhakkadai"

Senkal podikkUrai veNN pall tavatthavar: It is after 1,000 punya JanmAs , one gains BrahmaNa janmA . After 1,000 BrahmaNa JnamAs , one attains the BrahmANa janmA blessed to recite Vedams. After 1,000 Adhyayana BrahmANa janmAs , one is gifted to have the BrAhmaNa janmA qualified to perform Yajn~ams . After thousand Yajn~a performing JanmAs does one get the JanmA ,where one is blessed by the Lord to become a SanyAsi .

Fifteenth Paasuram L: "YellE iLankiLiyE "

This is ThiruppAvai's ThiruppAvai since it touches on SrI VaishNava LakshaNam as per Swamy ParAsara Battar. This Paasuram is also linked to Thirumangai AzhwAr

as the Gopikai .
