Guest guest Posted August 15, 2008 Report Share Posted August 15, 2008 NOTE: Readers having difficulty in reading the text may need to change their encoding to UTF-8. ------------------- srI: SrI sAra sAram – I (50) -- I – ThirumantrAdhikAram -- The Significance of ‘nArAyaNanAya’ --- Swami Desikan summarizes all these points in a beautiful Tamil verse: “yAthAmivaiyanaitthum padaitthEnthum iRaiyavanumAik kOthAm kuNangaLuDan kuRukAtha guNatthanumAi mAthApithAvena mannuRavAik kathiyenna ninRAn pOthAr thirvuDan ponnaruL pootthanam puNNiyanE.†Meaning: “pOthAr thirvuDan†-- Along with SrI Who resides in flower; “ponnaruL poottha†– full of great compassion; “nam puNNiyan†– Our Lord Who appears to be the very personification of our good deeds; “padaitthEnthum iRaiyavanumAi†– Remains the Lord by creating and protecting; “yAthAmivaiyanaitthum†– All these sentient beings and non-sentient things “kOthAm kuNangaLuDan kuRukAtha guNatthanumAi†-- Having all the auspicious qualities without a trace of any bad quality; “mAthApithAvena mannuRavAi†– Being a strong relative like Mother or Father; “kathiyenna ninRAn†– Stands as the goal. The Lord is known through the name, ‘nArayaNa’ as the One Who, accompanied by Sri, is full of compassion; is the very personification of our good deeds; is the Creator, the Protector and the Ruler of everything, both sentient beings and non-sentient things; is without any trace of any of the bad qualities but full of auspicious qualities; remains a close relative like a mother and a father; and is the ultimate goal to be attained.
