Guest guest
Respected devotees of almighty due to oversight i have posted the second posting without some text included please read the second part as this one. sorry for the inconvienence We are studying about curses received by raavaNa besides the sharp arrows of sree raama which caused him to die. In that list of curses, the top priority will be given to sree seethaa, the mahaa lakshmi, who was the immediate cause for his downfall. 1. Seethaa's curse While every one will list sreemadh raamaayaNam I am going into sreemadh bhaagavatham first. Mandodari says [while mourning the death of raavaNa in the battlefield - as per srimadh bhaagavatham chapter 10 of 9th skandham – slokam 27] na vai vEdha mahah bhaaga bhavaan kaamavasam gathah |thEjO~nubhavam seethaayaa yEna neethO dhasaam imaam || meaning: "O greatly fortunate one, you came under the influence of lusty desires, and therefore you could not understand the influence of mother Seethaa. Now, because of her curse, you have been reduced to this state, having been killed by Lord Raamachandhra. So it is the curse of seethaa that raavaNa died. As per vaalmeeki – seethaa did not really give a curse but said my raama will come and kill you – if you do not return me to raama. But since these words came at the top of her sOkham on separation from her husband we take that as her curse -- prasaadhayasva thvam chanam saraNaagatha vathsalam || 5-21-21maam cha asmai niyathO bhoothvaa niryaathayithum arhasi | meaning: seethaa says to raavaNa, "You seek graciousness of this Raama who loves those who seek protection. Becoming piously disposed, you are suited to return me to Raama." Evam hi thE bhaveth svasthi sampradhaaya raghooththamE || 5-21-22anyathaa thvam hi kurvaNO vadham praapsyasi raavaNa | meaning: "In this way returning me to Raama will become fortunate to you. O Raavana! If you do in a different way, you will get slayed." When she says 'vadham praapsyasi' - that itself is a curse. You all may know that she wept very elaborately and even went to the extent of hanging herself just before hanumaan gave her comfort by uttering the ever sweet 'raama naamam'. 2. Brahmaa's curse: Perhaps many will know it is because of brahmaa's boons – varangaL – raavaNa got all his powers and became a nuisance to all. That is why sreeman naaraayaNa has to take sree raama avathaaram. But raavaNa himself admits he received a curse also from brahmaa. Being the creator brahma the prajaa pathi – the first to create – raavaNa got boons as well as curse from him. So let us see the references on boons and curses from brahmaa here. Sreemadh raamaayaNam -- bhagavan thvath prasaadhEna raavaNO naama raakshasah |sarvaan nah baadhathE veeryaath saasithum tham na saknumah || 1-15-6 meaning: the dhEvaas lead by indhra go to brahmaa and plead, "Oh! God, the demon named RaavaNa is torturing all of us with his intrepidity, as you have blessed him, and we are unable to control him. [1-15-6] thvayaa thasmai varO dhaththah preethEna bhagavan thadhaa |maanayanthah cha tham nithyam sarvam thasya kshamaamahE || 1-15-7 meaning: dhEvaas continue -- "You have given boon to him appreciating his thapas and oh, god, with high regard to that boon of yours we are tolerating all the cruel acts of RaavaNa from then onwards [1-15-7] But brahmaa himself says to the dhEvaas, when all were in front of him – as naaraayaNa also came to that place where all these dhEvaas were pleading to brahmaa – [what boon he gave is spelt by brahma himself] thEna gandharva yakshaaNaam dhEvathaanaam cha rakshasaam |avadhyO~asmi ithi vaagukthaa thathEthi uktham cha than mayaa || 1-15-13 meaning: brahmaa to dhEvaas, "Raavana said while seeking boon that, 'I shall not be killed by gandharva-s, yaksha-s, or by gods, or by other demons...' and I also said 'so be it..." [1-15-13] na akeerthayath avajnaanaath thath rakshO maanushaam thadhaa |thasmaath sa maanushaat vadhyO mrithyuh na anyo~asya vidhyathE || 1-15-14 meaning: brahmaa continues, "That demon did not express about humans then with his disrespect to them, and evidently his death does not occur otherwise." So said Brahma to gods. [1-15-14] bhayam thyajatha bhadhram vO hithaartham yudhi raavaNam |sa puthra pouthram sa amaathyam sa mithra jnaathi baandhavam || 1-15-28hathvaa krooram dhuraadharsham dhEva risheeNaam bhayaavaham |dhasa varsha sahasraaNi dasa varsha sathaani cha || 1-15-29vathsyaami maanushE lOkE paalayan pruthveem imaam | meaning: then sreeman naaraayaNan assures all dhEvaas including brahmaa and rudhra assembled there, "Get rid off the fear, let safety be upon you, on eliminating that cruel and evil-minded Raavana who became dreadful to deities and sages, along with his sons, grandsons, friends, cousins and relatives, ministers and forces too in war for your welfare, I will then reside in human world ruling this earth for eleven thousand years." Thus Vishnu assured the gods. [1-15-28, 29, 30a] Thus it about raavaNa's boons from brahma. Because of the length consideration of the post, let us see what is brahmaa's curse in next post. with due respect to devotees of almightyv.anjaneyulu 400kv s/s powergrid betul road pathrota, itarsi - 461 111 mob 09893683689 Get an email ID as yourname or yourname.
