Guest guest
Post 3 Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, We are studying the krithi lakshaNamulu gala in raagam saavEri of thyaagaraaja in link with sree hanumaan's description of raama to seethaa. Just a repeat of anupallavi – to recapitulate - kukshiNi brahmaaNDamu lunnavaTa vi-chakshuNuDaTa dheeksha guruDaTa subha [lakshaNamulu] meaning: It is heard [from Vedhaas, and or itihaasams, etc.] that – There are many universes in His stomach; He is a connoisseur or discriminating or differentiates between things; He is the preceptor who initiates his devotees. Sreemadh raamaayaNam – raamO bhaamini lOkasya chaathurvarNyasya rakshithaa | maryaadhaanaam cha lOkasya karthaa kaarayithaa cha sah || 5-35-11 meaning: Hanumaan continues his description of raama to seethaa, " O Seethaa! Raama is the protector of the four castes of the world. He is the doer and also the agent for the people's propriety of conduct. " Point: when one has all the world in his kukshi – the stomach – is he not supposed to do feed it, protect it and clean it when required – that is what simply said as a meaning of the slokam – archishhmaan archithO athyartham brahmacharya vrathE sthithah | saadhoonaam upakaarajnah prachaarajnah cha karmaNaam || 5-35-12 meaning: Raama is a resplendent man. He is respected exceedingly. He is established in a vow of chastity. He knows how to do good to virtuous people. He knows the application and advantage of his actions. " point: when raama is said by hanumaan as 'one who knows' – that is what ST also says as 'vi-chakshuNuDaTa' – one who knows and how to distinguish or simply a connoisseur. raaja vidhyaa vineethah cha braahmaNaanaam upaasithaa | sruthavaan seela sampannO vineethah cha paranthapah || 5-35-13 meaning: hanumaan continues, " raama is well trained in statesmanship. He honours brahmins, the priestly class. He possesses sacred knowledge. He is endowed with good conduct. He is a modest man. He torments his adversaries. " Point: ST says 'dheeksha guruDaTa' – but raamaayaNam says raama is well trained – does he really need any training – but to show to others and be a 'role model' as stated in modern management - he needs a training – and that is what raama had from guru vasishta, krishNa had from guru saandheepani – but really he is 'guru thamaaya guru' as already seen. He is the person who gave vEdhaas but comes as a sishya to guru vasishTa. But when it comes to practice, he does himself by observing good conduct etc viz. how to be a role model in doing good to others – that way he teaches and does prachaaram – and that he knows how to do also. Thus does he not become a preceptor? That is what hanumaan and ST says in same tone - dheeksha guruDaTa. ST simply follows hanumaan in saying what is stated in raamaayaNam, if we say – is it wrong? About the charaNam and comments on it, in next post please. Vasudevan MG
