Dearest all,

Today – (Nov 2) aippasi moolam- is the thirunakshathram of doyen of

thennacharya Sri ManavaaLa maamunigaL who appeared one year after Swamy Desikan

attained acharyan thiruvaDi.

His thaniyan is:

Sri SailEsa dayA pAthram dhI bhakthyAdhi guNArNavam |

yathIndhra pravaNam vandhE ramya jAmAthram munim ||

I salute Sri ManavaaLa MaamunigaL, who has the blessings of Thiruvaaimozhi

Pillai (ManavaaLa Maamuni¡¦s Aachaarya- Sri SailEsar) and who is an ocean of

jnAnam (knowledge) and Bhakthi (devotion).

Today is also the 201st Thirunakshathram of Sri KethaaNdipatti Swami, who had

appeared 200 years ago in this earth for saving us.

About 200 years ago- there was an acharya saarvabhouman by name Sri Gopaalaarya

Mahadesikan (Thirukkudanthai Desikan). The three sanyaasa sishyas of his were:

1. Sri Srinivasa Maha Desikan of Cheyyanam on the banks of Tamirabarani river

2. Sri Ranganatha Maha Desikan of Vathiraairuppu, Thirumaliruncholai

3. Sri Vedantha Ramanuja Maha Desikan of Vazhuthur. (later also called as

Vazhutthoor Andavan)

Sri Vedantha Ramanuja Mahadesikan (Sri VazhutthUr Andavan) had the following

main disciples:

1. Sri Annayarya Mahadesikan and thus came in Sri Valayapettai Swamy

Paramparai.

2. Sri Vedantha Ramanuja mahadesikan (Sri Andikkaadu Swamy- Sri Vangheepuram

Swamy) – Sri Rangaramanuja mahadesikan- Sri Kedhaandipatti Swamy Paramparai

(from which we were blessed with Sri KozhiyAlam Swamy- Sri Utthamoor Swamy

paramparai; Sri Ramadesikacharyar; Sri Madhuranthakam Swamy et al)

3. SRI SRINIVASA RAMANUJA MAHADESIKAN- Sri TirutthuRaippooNdi Andavan- Srimad

Andavan Ashramam (Periyashramam and Poundarikapuram Andavan Ashramam)

Thus (2) above is Sri KethaaNdipatti Swami Paramaparai.

KethaaNdipatthi Swami- Sri Ranga Raamaanuja Mahadesikan Swami- appeared in

aippasi moolam in the year of vibhava in Lakshmipuram in the lineage of Nallaan

chakravartthi. At young age, he had learnt saamaanya saasthras. From his father,

he underwent Pancha samskaram, learnt Vedas and Upnaishads. He studied Gita

Bhashyam from Sri Nallan Swami who was there in Kethandipatti.

About 180 years ago, Sri Kethandipatti Swami had wealth and property worth 4

lakhs (Rs. 400000) which he handed over to the temple belonging to Lakshmipuram,

Kethandipatti, Karumpatti, dengaNikOttai, etc.. and remaining- he gave to his

elder brother. He along with his spouse came to Thiruvaheendrapuram. He

performed unchavritthi for his dEhayatthra there. There, he learnt from

Andikkaattu Swami siRiya vEdantha raamaanuja Mahadesikan, Sri Bhashyam, Bhagavad

Vishayam, Srimad Rahasyathraya saaram etc., SatadushaNi, nyAyasiddhAnjanam,

Tattvateekai, Sarvaarttha siddhi, adhikaraNa saaraavaLi, etc.

Then due to his intense bhakti and strong vairAgyam, in the year Parithaapi,

Thai month, he took sanyaas (thureeyAsramam) in Thirukkudanthai. Parama

bhAgawathOtthamar, ParamaikAnthi Sri Navalpaakkam Annayaarya Mahadesikan

performed maadhookaram for our Swami for some time. Even during Purvaashramam,

at the time of unchavritthi, it appears, Sri Kethandipattai Swami used to recite

AdhikaraNa saaraavaLi, tattvamukta kalaapam slokas… - mentioned in the

biography of this swami written by Sri Kootthakkudi KavithArkika SimhAcharyar.

Even in Purvashramam, and Thureeyaashramam, whatever dravyams offered by

sishyas – Swami used to collect and offer ratnAngi and other ornaments for

Swami Desikan in Thiruvaheendrapuram and enjoyed Desikan adorned with such

valuable ornaments.

Swami walked all the way from Sethu to Thirumala hills, Thirukadanmallai to

Melkote, and there enjoyed performing bhagavath kainkarya. This Acharya was the

tallest and greatest acharya among his contemporaries.

There were four yathis who did kalakshepam under this Swami and then themselves

became great acharyas. A devil (brahmaraakshasa) got liberated from its sins by

drinking the holy waters from the padhukas of this Swami – which was an

incredible extraordinary event that happened.

This Swami’s 201st Thirunakshathram is being gloriously celebrated in

Srirangam Srimad Poundarikapuram Andavan Ashramam from 29th Oct to 2nd Nov. The

celebrations include recitation (paraayaNams) of Vedas, Ithihasams, Puranams,

Divya prabandhas, Grantha chathushtaya. The programme is blessed and presided

by H.H Paravakkottai Andavan Swami, who is the greatest and tallest acharya as

on today. The other highlight is Vidwat Sadhas during the five days blessed by

His Holiness.

Sri VN Vedantha Desikan Swami, Sri Anantha Narasimhachar Swami of Srirangam, Sri

VN Venkanathan Swami have oreganzized this 201st Thirunakstahram celebrations in

a grand manner befitting to this great acharya.
