Guest guest
Post 21 Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, On the naama "sanaathanaaya nama:" we saw a few questions being raised to understand who is receipient of the 'fruits in a bunch' – phala manjari, which is the name of raagam which thyaagaraaja uses for hs krithi 'sanaathana'. I will wait for clues from you all before we decide on who that beneficiary is and praise raama as 'sanaathana'. This krithi is usually sung in thuritha kaalam – fast pace. The SVSN has this naama as 'sanaathana thama' - supremely old. As such we move on to next naama – 'Parama PaavanAya nama: " paavana means purity. 293 paavanaaya namah - In the earlier term " Pavanah " the Lord is indicated as the One who has, in the form of the atmospheric air, filled the universe. He is the One who sustains life in all living creatures as the life-giving atmospheric air. Here, the present term " Paavanah " means the One who gives this life-sustaining power to the atmospheric air. It is very wellknown that the moving air (Breeze) purifies more than any other known thing in the world. The atmosphere by His Grace acquires this purifying power. In short, He is the secret glory that lends the atmosphere, the very life-sustaining property for the air, and He is the dynamism that moves the air. [just for reference -- 292. Pavanah – means air or vaayu - One who purifies everything? Or one who manifests as the life-giving atmosphere around the world and sustains the existence everywhere]. In sree vishNu sahsra naamam we have this naama. 'Parama' is a superlative degree word. So he is not only a simple 'purifier' but a supreme purifier. This naama also brings me the reference of a krithi starting with parama paavana raamaa – which runs like this - Composer: Raamanaadhapuram (Poochi) Sreenivaasa Aiyyangaar Raagam: poorvi kalyaaNi. pallavi parama paavana raamaa paapa vimOchanaa paarajoochi nannu paalimpumayya -- parama anupallavi vara maruT-paalanuta vaarija lOchana vaaraNa aarthi haraNa vaanchitha phala pradhaa -- parama charaNam kanaka ambara dhara karuNa anvitha vara kaama janaka narakaanthaka murahara vanaja aasana sannutha vaaridhi kanyaa priya vaamana roopa sreenivaasa vara naayaka -- parama Please note here that words 'vaaridhi kanyaa priya'. That attracts me. vaaridhi is ocean. vaaridhi kanyaa is mahaa lakshmee – for she is born from ocean – when the milk ocean is churned in that amrutha mathanam episode. [sree leela sukhar calles krishNa as 'sindhu kanyaa pathE' in krishNa karNaamrutham] that vaaridhi kanyaa priya is naaraayaNa – or when krithi is talking about raama – then seethaa is that 'vaaridhi kanyaa' – mahaa lakshmee – now seethaa – her priya is raama - so that raama is 'seethaa manOhara' for she wanted HIM only, and liked HIM as her husband – so he is her manah harah – seethaa manOhara - the very first naama in this series. We will continue with more in next post. Dhasan -- Vasudevan MG
