Dear sri vaishNava

perunthagaiyeer,

The next naama is "sanaathanaaya

nama:" in our respected sri sadagopan swamy's collection of 108 naamas on

'raama' from thyaagaraja krithis.

In Sree VishNu Sahasra Naamam,

there is a slokam

sanaath sanaathana thaamah

kapilah kapih avyayah. Slokam 96.

So this naama is staright away

there in SVSN - Om sanathana

thamaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 898 occurring in slOkam 96

Meaning: ageless but still new. Most ancient. Though his form is

ancient and eternal, he always looks as though he is new and fresh, and

enjoyable to his devotees. Even in the past he was and is new.

That krithi from where this naama

is taken reads --

Pallavi

sanaathana parama

paavana

ghanaa-ghana varNa

kamala aanana (sanaathana)

Anupallavi

thanavaaDa nE

abhimaanamu

dhaivamaina

neekEla galgadhO (sanaathana)

CharaNam

raaja adhipa

anvaya saagara

raaju neevai

vilasillithE

thEjarillagaa

krupa joothuvE

ee jagaana

thyaagaraaja sannutha (sanaathana)

meaning:

[summarized]: O Eternal Lord! O Supremely Holy! O Lord who is dark-cloud hued!

O Lotus Faced! O Lord well-praised by this thyaagaraajaa! Being a God, why

wouldn't You have affection towards me that I am Yours? If You are indeed

shining as the moon born in the ocean of the dynasty of emperors, You would

surely have, gloriously, shown grace (towards me) in this world.

This krithi is in Phala Manjari Raagam.

Phalam means result or fruit.

Manjari means a bunch – so phala manjari means - a bunch of results.

In sreemadh raamaayaNam, who really got a bunch of results

and who addresses the lord raama as sanaathanaa – oh eternal lord –Now let us

see a list of personalities.

1. Can it be sugreeva – for he got

his friendship treaty signed with raama

his enemy and elder brother killed later by that raama,

back his abducted wife after that killing of vaali,

also thaara, his brother's wife as his wife – a bonus

to himback his kingdomcrowned as king of kishkindha and vaanaraas of the

world, thereby a full fledged kingdom with huge vaanara population crowned by lakshmaNa as representative of raama

2. Can it be vibheeshaNa – for he got

his asylum seeking accepted by raama

the makuta abhishEkam – crowning as king of lankaa

done by raama even while his brother and king raavaNa was still ruling on

the other shores of lankaalankaa's kingdom and now also ruling – [for he is a

chiranjeevi- ever living]

3. Can it be the rishis in dhandakaaraNya – for they got

the lord and dhEvi living among them

seeing as a matter of routine lord and dhEvi moving

here and there among them telling stories and having discussions with them

later that beauty of a scene – seethaa embracing raama

– not once but twice – so that vaalmeeki describes that scene - in that

glorious slokam

tham dhrishTvaa sathru hanthaaram maharsheeNaam sukha

aavaham || 3-30-39

babhuuva hrishTaa vaidhEhee bharthaaram parishasvajE |

meaning: And Seethaa on seeing

her husband, the eliminator of enemies and accorder of happiness to sages,

embraced her husband Raama, rejoicingly.

thathah thu tham raakshasa sangha

mardhanam

sa poojyamaanam mudhithaih

mahaathmabhih |

punah parishvajya mudhaa anvitha

aananaa

babhoova hrishTaa janaka

aathmajaa thadhaa || 3-30-41

meaning: She whose face is

beaming with delight that Seethaa, the daughter Janaka, on seeing Raama who has

eliminated demonic troops, and whom great-sages are worshipping, again embraced

him and became rapturous.

later got an opportunity to embrace the lord

individually in that romantic dance raasa leelaa of krishNa

4. Can it be bharatha –

for he wanted raama to come back and rule ayodhya but

got paadhukai the representative of the lord. Not only that an assurance from lord that he will come

back on the dot – appear on completion of 14 years

5. Can it be hanumaan who got

·

enrolled

as raama's trusted assistant [entrusted to raama by hanumaan's king sugreeva]

·

the

raama naama in his breath and tongue ever engraved

·

that

graceful embrace from raama on hanumaan achieving that practically near

impossible task of locating seethaa in

asOka vanam,

·

later

got that haaram seethaa's hand herself – the kataaksham of mahaalakshmi in the

crowning scene of raama

6. last but not least – can it

be raama himself getting a 'phala manjari' – from others – and those who

offered him that bunch of fruits then praises raama as 'sanaathana' having

realized who is this raama – a classy answer that strikes my mind is that

samudhra raajan – for he gave to raama

the permission to build a bridge on himthe order to crocodiles in ocean not to disturb the

vaanaraas while they cross the ocean to lanka

Later raama also got performed a

crowning on the lankan shores of ocean [after crossing thru the bridge]. See

vaalmeeki describing that crowning – [not that pattabhishEkam in ayOdhyaa – sargam

128 - being crowned by vasishTa – the kula guru]

sameekshya dhEvaah saha sidhdhha chaaraNaih |

upEthya raamam sahithaa maharshibhih

|

sam abhyashinchan sushubhair

jalaih prithak || 6-22-86

meaning: Seeing that Raama's

accomplishment, which was amazing and arduous; celestials, Sidhdhhas

(semi-divine beings possessing supernatural faculties) and Chaaranas (celestial

bards) along with great sages, forthwith approached Raama and consecrated him

with very splendid waters separately.

|

meaning: The celestials, Sidhdhaas

and others exalted Raama, who was duly respected by kings with their auspicious

words as follows: "O, king! Defeat the enemies. Rule the earth and ocean

eternally for years."

So I invite readers to give some

clues to conclude who is this personality who praised raama as 'sanaathanaa'.
