Guest guest
Swamin, I would like to know the significance of Navarathri for Srivaishnavas. It is popularly said that Navarathri belongs to Lakshmi, Durga and Saraswathi. This does not appear to be in line with Srivaishnava Thoughts. I also do not think that Kolu, which is a kind of worship towards dolls without any prathishta, has any sanction in Srivaishnava Sampradayam. Then what is the significanice of Navarathri for Srivaishnavas / Prapannas and why should they celebrate it? And for what reason it is celebrated in our Divyadesams? Kindly enlighten me. Guest guest
Dear Sri Raghunathan, NavarAtri (NR) used to be celebrated at the commencement of every season (meaning 6 NRs in a given year!). Later on only chaitra and Sharad NR remained. Sharad NV is the most popular. This is long before Srivaishnavism was popularized by Ramanujacharya. Srivaishnavas have adopted it by dedicating to Rama and Hayagrivar. Chaitra NR has Rama Navami and Sharad NR has Vijayadashami- That is why Ramayana Parayanam is typically conducted with pattabhishekam on teh last day of NR. Hayagriva is worshipped in place of or in addition to Saraswathi by Srivaishnavas. dAsan K.S. tAtAchAr raghunathan r <rraghunathan_in Thu, 6 Sep 2007 6:09 am Significance of Navarathiri for Prapannas Swamin, I would like to know the significance of Navarathri for Srivaishnavas.
