Dear Asthikas,

The Muscat Srivaishnava Samithi was very much blessed to organize the great Sri Padmavathi Sri Srinivasan Kalyanotsavam

Last one month about 10 devotees and in the last 10 days about 75 devotees were serving for the preparation. Apart from Srivaishnavas in Muscat, the Andhra Samithi (devotees of Lord Balaji) came forward to take immense part in this gala function. The Sathya Sai devotees, Aiyyappa Seva devotees, ISCON devotees, Balbharati devotees and many individuals took immense interest in the success of this great event. The stage was well decorated with verities of Lord Balaji's portraits, flowers and other decoration items.

In the morning the Mangala Abhishekam was performed to the deities. The special dress materials brought from Brindavan made of Silk cloth were offered to God. Sri Devi, Bhoomi Piratti and Srinivasan were decorated with Silk clothes and Golden ornaments. They arrived to the Temple Hall at 4 pm for the marriage ceremony with arathi. There they were well decorated with flowers and garlands in kedayam, to be ready for purappadu.

The programme started exactly at 5.00 pm with Nithya-Aradhanam followed by Prarthana. Exactly 6 pm the Purappadu (savari) of Srinivasan started with great devotion. All were chanting Govinda Govinda and the play back music playing the note for purappadu in Mandalin followed by Govinda nama sankirthanam. At the end Sri Devi and Bhoomi Devi also joined the Purappadu along with bride seer items for marriage such as jewelery, new cloths, 9 verities of Kalyana seer varisai sweets, 11 verities of fruits, Vilayadal thattu etc which were carried by about 30 ladies with marriage songs. Then the exchange of ball game has taken place with great joy and fun by the devotees. After this the exchange of Garland (malai Matral) took place with songs and dance with great honour to the holy garlands. Then the deities reached stage after mangala harathi. Devotees showered rose petals on the deities at that time.

After reaching the stage Onjal seva was performed to the deities on which the Onjal vastram (a silk cloth to Lord Srinivasa) was offered with vedic mantras followed by Pal and pidi sutrudal. After nivedanam of verities of sweets and fruits and magala harathi, the deities were giving darsanam to the devotees on Special Badra-asanam (auspicious stage) and getting ready for Kalya utsavam. The sankalpam, prarthana for the marriage ceremony was performed followed by Vishwaksena Aradhanam. After Vishwaksena Aradhanam Pushpa ankurarpanam was performed followed by Raksha Bhandanam. Then the Mangala Sutras were offered to Sri Devi and Bhoomi Devi from the hands of Lord Srinivasa with Govinda Chanting and Nadaswara music.

Then Akshadai (the holy rice with turmeric mixed) was showered on the Deities with Vedic chanting, followed by Pancha sukta parayanam and Varanamayiram – the 10 songs of Andal which describes her dream in which she marries Lord Krishna.

The Telugu samithi devotees performed Annamayya bhajans for ½ hour, meanwhile the Ashtothra sata nama Archana was performed to Lord Balaji and Mahalakshmi. After offereing hundreds of fruits and laddus, the Kalyana Utsavam concluded with 10 verities of Mangala Harathi.
