Aikya Matya (or) Samgnyana (Unity) Sukta

Would someone kindly throw some light on the above suktas in the

rigveda. Would very much appreciate if one of the learned members can

provide me a translation.

There may be many, but the concluding mantras of Rgveda are out standing:

Jesudas's rendering of it is even more out standing. That is found in his hymns

sam- sa- mi- dhyu-va-sE vRe-SHa-nna-gnE vi-shvA-nya-rya A |

i-La-spa-dE sa-mi-dhya-sE sa nO va-sU-nyA bha-ra ||RV X-191-1||

 

O mighty Agni, kindled in the seat of iLA (established in right order);

you bring us treasures gathered from our enemies.

 

sam ga-ccha-dhvam sam va-da-dhvam

sam vO ma-nAm-si jA-na-tAm |

dE-vA bhA-gam ya-thA pU-rvE

sam-jA-nA-nA u-pA-sa-tE || RV X-191-2||

 

Be together, speak together

Let your minds agree in thought

Just as gods in the past received their share

Agreeing with each other.

 

sa-mA-nO ma-ntrah sa-mi-tih sa-mA-nee

sa-mA-nam ma-nah sa-ha chi-tta-mE-SHAm |

sa-mA-nam ma-ntra-ma-bhi ma-ntra-yE vah

sa-mA-nE-na vO ha-vi-SHA ju-hO-mi || RV X-191-3||

 

Common is the mantra of these, common their gathering

Common their minds and common their thought.

I sanctify your common mantra;

I offer sacrifice(worship) with a common oblation for you.

 

 

sa-mA-nee va A-kU-tih sa-mA-nA hRe-da-yA-ni vah |

sa-mA-na-ma-stu vO ma-nO ya-thA vah su-sa-hA-sa-ti || RV X-191-4||

 

One and the same be your intention

And may your hearts be in unison

United be the thoughts of all

That all may happily agree.
