Guest guest
ShrI It is not possible to do justice to any of the writings of our Purvacharyas and many of them are kavyams and this includes the writings of KavitArkikasimhan Swamy Desikan. All of us know that Kavi Venkatadhvari, an ardent devotee of Shri Vedanta Desikan has sung of The Divine Mother in his Lakshmi Sahasram, filling every shlokam with alankarams and play of words and sounds. Below is a translation from his Lakshmi Sahasram. This is an attempt to portray the author's Pradurbhava stabakam where he describes Thayar's avataram. He addresses Alarmel Mangai and thinks about her appearance as the daughter of the King of Milky Ocean and speaks to her as such. He starts with Ksheerabdi – Lakshmi Kalyana Vaibhogam Obeisance to the King of Ksheerabdi, who produced two gems to adorn Hari's chest – of which one is hard (Kaustubham) and the other one is soft (Lakshmi)! Devi! Two bright lights (Kausthubam and Chandran) appeared in the Ocean with you - one adorned Hari's bosom and the other became an ornament of Shiva. The King of the Ocean undertook a vratam - of giving you to Purushottaman (Vishnu); so he started by giving away precious things to good people - he gave Kamadhenu to the Devas as godhanam) even though her milk is as sweet as divine nectar; and he gave Uchaishravas and Kalpavriksha to Devendran.. And the Devas accepted Amritham as well, but Shri Hari alone did not take anything - since He is an expert in looking for the real essence, and so he waited and took You, who is Auspiciousness herself! You know, there is a belief in the world that the qualities of siblings can be seen as unmistakable resemblance in each person - and this is so true: because Your countenance is as pleasing as your brother Chandras'; the qualities of Kalpavriksha's soft leaves can be seen in Your hands and feet (they have the same quality of giving everyone whatever they need and want); and the sweetness of Amritham can be experienced in Your speech! Let Amritham, Kalpavriksha, etc. be! They do not really matter – as far as parenthood goes, Your Father was known as a parent only because of You (and not because of the others). For instance even if a King has many good qualities like bravery and so on, he gets the fame as a great King only if he has the quality of generosity and this quality makes him a Gunavan! Due to churning the Ocean, tiny droplets arose due to the disturbance of the Vasuki's breathing and fell as pushpanjali and this was accompanied by the `dhum dhum' sound of the Manthara mountain. Samudrarajan worshipped Madhavan with these droplets as flowers to this sound and Oh! He got You as the result of his pooja– the best among maidens! To be concluded……. shreemathe naaraayanaaya namaha shubha
