Bhagavad Vishayam is a KaalkshEpa Grantham. It is one of the four ( Grantha ChAtushtyam) recommended for study ( KaalakshEpam) under AchAryan's sacred feet . Bhagavad Vishayam is about Swamy NammAzhwAr's ThiruvAimozhi . It is known as 6,000 padi and consists of six thousand units of length known as Padi . This is the first commentary of ThiruvAimozhi in MaNipravALam. Bhagavad Vishayam was assigned for commentary by AchArya RaamAnuja (1017-1137 C.E) to His dear disciple ( Jn~Ana Putran ) , ThirukkurukkEsar ( Thirukkurhai PirAn PiLLAn) , the second son of Periya Thirumalai Nambi , the uncle of AchArya RaamAnujA . KurukkEsar was born during a Srimukha Samvatsara Iyppasi day , when PoorvAshAda Nakshatram was in ascendance . He belonged to Shadamarshana gOtram of AchArya Naatha Muni . KurukkEsar's education was entrusted by Periya Thirumalai Nambi to his nephew , AchArya RaamAnujA . KurukkEsar was appointed as Ubhya SimhAsanAdhipathi by AchArya RaamAnuja , which was a rare distinction among the 74 SrI BhAshya SimhAsanAdhipatis selected by AchArya RaamAnuja . KurukkEsar was commissioned to teach and propagate both Sri BhAshyam and ThiruvAimozhi . KurukkEsar composed and presented " Bhagavad Vishayam " to AchArya RaamAnuja , who ordered that it should serve as a KaalkshEpa grantam from then on. KurukkEsar's sishyar was YengaLAzhwAn of ThiruveLLaRai ( 1106-1197C.E ), the author of the commentary on VishNu PurANam ( VishNu chitteeyam) . His sishyar was NadAthUr AmmAL ( 1165-1275) of Srivatsa Gotram , whose grandson was GadikAsatam AmmAL ; latter was the AchAryan of the Founding Jeeyar of Ahobila Matam , Sri Adhi VaNN SaThakOpa Yatheendhra MahA DEsikan . NadAthUr AmmAL's sishyar was AtrEya RaamAnujar, the uncle and AchArya of Swamy NigamAntha Mahaa Desikan . One of the SrI Sooktis of Swamy Desikan is Taatparya RatnaavaLi , the celebration of the 1,000 kalyANa guNams of Sriman NaarAyaNan as celebrated by Swami NammAzhwAr in His ThiruvAimozhi and is therefore related to Bhagavad Vishayam . adiyEn will present a series of postings on Bhagavad Vishayam/Taatparya RatnAvaLi for this special Birthday Celebrations and request all of you to participate in this Ubhaya VedAntha Birth day celebrations at SelayUr/East Tamabram on December 7 , 2008 .
