Dear srivaishNava

perunthagaiyeer,

Now starting on the

number three and its glory in raamaayaNam, we will see first the

points and then some elaboration on this threesomes.

 

 

sree raama has three

mothers in kousalyaa, sumithra and kaikEyee.

 

sree raama has one

father in king dhasaratha and treats two others as his father – so

he has three fathers – king dhasaratha, sage athri, bird jataayu

 

Sree raama has three

brothers in lakshmaNa, bharatha and sathrugna [no doubts on this for

any body]

 

sree raama adds

three to his already three brothers list as above [as stated by

kamban] - in guha, sugreeva and vibheeshaNa

 

sree raama has three

gurus in sage vasishTa, sage visvaamithra and sage agasthya – [one

revered elder giving manthra upadhesam is guru and hence this status

to these three].

 

sree raama gets

three manthrams – bala, athibala, and aadhithya hrudhayam.

 

sree raama meets

three rishis in his first outing to mithila when going along with

sage visvaamithra – gouthama, sadaanandha and janaka.

 

sree raama gets

asthrams and sasthrams from three again – visvaamithra,

parasuraama, agasthya

 

sree raama meets

three in his first encounter of war – thaataka, maareecha and

subhaahu

 

sree raama kills

three which finally turns into benefits for him – viraadhan,

kabhandhan, vaali

 

sree raama meets

three ladies in forest – soorpanakhaa, sabari and thaara [wife of

vaali]

 

sree raama gives

moksham to three – sabari, sage sarabhanga, and jatayu

 

sree raama gives

maareechaa three chances and in third only maareecha gets killed

 

sree raama does

penance in the shores for three days

 

sree raama gets

three chances for crowning and third one was the grand finale

 

sree raama sees

raavaNa three times – first from suvela mountain, first encounter

and second encounter – in the second encounter only he gets

killed.

 

Sree raama has three

ardent servants in lakshmaNa, hanumaan and jaambavaan

 

sree raama is helped

by birds three times – jatayu, smpaathi and garudan

 

sree raama has three

ladies plot against him – manthara, kaikeyee, soorpanakha

 

sree raama kills

three army heads of raavaNa in major fight single handedly – khara

dhooshaNa and thrisira besides 14000 army men [that 14000 is not

that significant except for the number]

 

sree raama dwells in

three places predominantly in his forest sojourn – chithrakootam,

dandaka araNyam [though he lives in various rishi asramams all are

combined and stated as one place by vaalmeeki without much fanfare]

and panchavatee from where seethaa is lost

 

sree raama crowns

three – paadhukaa, sugreeva and vibheeshaNa

 

sree raama gets

treatment in war three times for his wounds etc – embrace of

seethaa as the medicine first time, garuda's appearance as release

agent second time, sanjeevini herbs for third time what hanumaan

brings for first time [second time it is only for lakshmaNa]

sree raama when he

went with sage visvaamithra and lakshmaNa was said as three headed

serpent.
